Sizzle Weeks 3 and 4

The focus in SIZZLE for the next two weeks will be ‘Take Turns When You Talk’.

Students will learn that when we take turns when talking to others, it is easier to hear others and is respectful of them. Taking turns when talking helps you learn from others and can be helpful when you are meeting people for the first time. When you take turns when talking with others, you have to listen, do something to show you are listening, talk after the person stops talking, and then wait for a response.

Students will be able to

  1. talk about the importance of taking turns when talking with others,
  2. name feelings associated with taking turns when talking with others,
  3. identify positive examples of this skill, and
  4. show how to take turns when they talk with others

Attached is the skill step card outlining the skill steps of:

Step 1: Listen to what the person is saying.

Step 2: Do something to show you are actively listening (nod your head, smile).

Step 3: Talk when the person has stopped by asking a question or making a comment.

Step 4: Wait to hear what the person says when you are done talking; don’t interrupt.

Step 5: Repeat steps again to continue taking turns talking and listening!
