Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,

Photos
A reminder that School Photos will be taken next Monday 10 May and that students should wear their full winter school uniform, including jumper. All students have received their order envelope this week. Check you child’s bag if you haven’t seen it yet and contact the school office if you require a replacement. If you would like a Family Photo, envelopes can be collected from the office and must be presented to the photographers on Monday.

Dutton St Acces
We have received very short notice that the Yass Valley Council will be replacing the footpath along the school side of Dutton Street with a 2.5m shared walkway, with work possibly commencing this week depending on weather. Access to school grounds via Rossi Street will be unaffected whilst this work is being completed, so I ask that, where possible, families make alternative arrangements for morning drop off and afternoon pick up. A safety plan for access to school premises via Dutton Street for the period of construction can be found at the end of this newsletter. For everybody's safety, I ask for your cooperation and patience during this time.

Northern Region Cross Country
Best of luck to the 49 students travelling to Crookwell on Friday for the Northern Region Cross Country. Stay warm and run well!

NAPLAN
The annual National Assessment Program—Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will commence next week for students in Year 3 and Year 5. We will be treating participation in NAPLAN as just another day at school. Please don’t feel the need to do anything at home in preparation for your child’s participation in NAPLAN; a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast are the best assistance you can provide to help your child perform at their best. If you have any concerns or questions about NAPLAN, please speak with your child’s teacher.

2022 Enrolments — Open Days and Parent Information Evening
Our enrolment drive for 2022 is well underway — the official enrolment period for Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese runs for the month of May. If you have a pre-school child ready for Kindergarten, it’s time to enrol now. Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn has an online enrolment form, which can be accessed by clicking the link below. If you need to access a hard-copy form, please contact the Front Office. An enrolment interview will be organised once the application is received. If your friends have a child starting in Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to consider Mt Carmel as an option for their children’s education.

We will be holding Open Day Tours for interested families on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 May (Week 5) at 10am, 12pm and 2pm, guided by our Student Leaders. Our K-2022 Parent Information Evening will be held on the evening of Wednesday 19 May at 7pm in the Lacey Library.

Mother’s Day
To all of the Mt Carmel Mums and other special women in the lives of our students, I wish you a very happy Mother’s Day. May God bless each and every one of you, and I hope that you have a wonderful Sunday, filled with love and joy. KNB has been preparing a Mother’s Day Prayer Service, but because we do not have the capacity under current COVID-19 restrictions to invite all families to attend we will instead be sharing the Prayer Service online. A link will be shared via SZapp and Facebook on Friday morning.

Mother_s_Day.jpg

All-loving God, we give you thanks and praise for mothers young and old.
We pray for young mothers, who give life and count toes and tend to our every need; May they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy.
We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured and cared for us; May they continue to guide us in strong and gentle ways.
We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty, or conflict; May they feel the loving embrace of our God who wipes every tear away.
We pray for women who are not mothers but still love and shape us with motherly care and compassion.
We remember mothers. grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love.
Amen.

May God’s peace be in your families,
