Japanese Incursion
On Monday 31st May, all students will enjoy a special Japanese incursion performed by Games Boy Japan.
As the world gears up to watch the 2021 Tokyo Olympics from afar, we're gearing up to bring students a hilarious and thoroughly educational Japanese-themed incursion. Games Boy JP is an on-stage show plus workshop that engages students on Japanese language and culture waaay beyond the cliches of sushi and samurai.
Games Boy JP is interactive theatre for young people that highlights aspects of Japanese existence that make this small island chain a cultural powerhouse. From local characters and cuisine that animate daily life to the stories behind the little understood ninja, geisha and distinctly Japanese notions of good manners.
Weaving in his own experiences as a student in Tokyo and traveller to Japan’s lesser-touristed corners, comedian Sean Murphy introduces students of the Japanese language to a country they won’t see from behind a screen:
“Like a lot of Aussie kids, I was first drawn to Japan by video games, anime and the idea of Tokyo as this futuristic metropolis. It wasn’t until I lived there that I came to appreciate that the more compelling sights and sensations were to be found in mountain temples, distinct small towns and, of course, the addictive culture of onsen [hot spring baths].”
