Religious Education
Welcome back to Term 3. I hope you had a restful and enjoyable break with your family.
Our Lady of Mt Carmel Prayer Service
1EK will be leading a prayer service this Friday 16 July to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel, the feast day of our school. On Mt Carmel day in 1876, the foundation stone for the Convent of Mercy was laid. Our Lady of Mt Carmel has been a patron of our school since then.
In the year of 1251, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel appeared to Simon Stock with a scapular in her hand. On Sunday, July 16th she appeared to him holding the child Jesus in one arm and the brown scapular in her other hand. She said to Simon,
“Take, beloved son, this scapular of thy Order as a badge of my confraternity and for thee and all Carmelites a special sign of grace; it is the sign of salvation, a safeguard in dangers, and a pledge of peace and of the covenant.”
The Carmelites see the Blessed Virgin Mary as a perfect model of prayer and contemplation to which the Carmelites aspire, a model of virtue and the one who was closest in life to Jesus Christ.
Mt Carmel Day Celebrations
Following the prayer service, students and staff will be participating in activities to celebrate this special day for the school. Photographs will be posted on our Mt Carmel School facebook page.
Prayer
An invitation to pray:
Dear God, we make our prayer in Mary’s name and ask for her to be in our hearts and our lives. Help us to always follow her example and give us courage to follow Jesus Christ, who is Lord for ever and ever.
Amen.
May peace be with you,
