2LS were talking to a journalist during Monday's Littlescribe Writers Festival and these are four examples from the class.

How Do You Spell Dog?
By Sam, 2LS News

There are different languages around the world.

A dog is an animal. When you look at the word, there’s a lower-case d-o-g. This is when it’s in English. In Latvian, it’s spelt s-v-a. In Sanskrit, it’s spelt s-u-n-s.

Sanskrit and Latvian both use the letter ‘s’ to spell dog. English and Latvian both use 3 letters, Sanskrit uses 4. If it had 1 less, it would be 3 letters too. It’s interesting.

How are Journalists Important?
By Alice, 2LS News

Journalists are important because they tell us about what has been happening.

Most journalists are on TV. Some journalists write the reports. Some share reports.

You can see and hear journalists on the news. Journalists use interviews.

What Does a Journalist Do?
By Magnus, 2LS News

Tuning in…. a journalist writes something shared in a newspaper or sometimes they broadcast news on TV.

A journalist tells true stories and they create a historical record. Sometimes they tell you about a natural problem/disaster: e.g. tornado, hurricane or twister.

They do all of that sometimes for a living. One question for journalists: do you get money for writing your stories?

Author Interviews with Students in Schools
By Poppy, 2LS Reporter

Kristin Darell, author, had an interview with 2LS and many other schools around Australia and New Zealand. Her focus was ‘facts versus opinions’. She used sentences about dogs to get us thinking. She said, “if it’s fact, put your hands on your head… if it’s opinion, put your hands on your lap.”

She asked us to decide on fact or opinion when she stated:

  • A dog has 4 legs
  • A dog has 2 ears
  • A dog is the best pet
