Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,

Remote Learning
We’ve had our first day of Remote Learning — congratulations, everybody!

I am deeply appreciative of the effort and commitment required to keep your child at home to engage in their learning. It’s not convenient, but it is important: another three schools have now been named as exposure site in the ACT, including a Catholic Primary School.

I hope that not too many of you had teething problems today, but please remember that if you do help is only a phone call or email away.

Again, please be easy on yourselves and your kids and realistic about how much work they will get through. Learning from home is not the same as learning from school, and that includes the amount of time it might take to complete tasks. A lesson that would take 30-40 minutes in a whole-class setting may only take 10 minutes to complete 1:1 with your child. Please also be assured that if something is too difficult or can’t easily be accessed it’s perfectly fine to put it aside and do something else; just send your child’s teacher a message to keep them in the loop. The NSW Department of Education has provided the following advice about recommended time spent in Remote Learning for primary-school-aged children:   Early_Stage_1_Stage_1.png

There is a page on our school website — the Remote Learning Hub — which contains a range of resources and advice that families may find helpful at this time: https://www.mtcarmel.nsw.edu.au/remote-learning-hub/resources.

If you come across a great resource that you think other families may appreciate, please email me and I will add it to the page.

Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival
It will probably come as no great surprise, but the Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival has been cancelled. I’m looking forward to making the trip to Boorowa in October next year.

Book Week
It will also probably come as no surprise that we have decided to postpone Book Week. At this stage we are optimistically hoping to have the Book Parade in Week 10. This is, of course, dependent on the local COVID situation… I’ll keep you informed.

Stay safe, everybody, and again please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any help or advice.

May God’s peace be in your families,
