Religious Education

Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 2! It has been a fabulous start to Term 4 with lots of learning, playing and having fun.

Kindergarten students have been exploring stories Jesus told and learning about The Good Samaritan. They used the visible thinking strategy: ‘Curtains Up, Curtains Down’ to deepen their understanding of the passage. Students showed a freeze frame of an everyday activity, from home and school, and students took turns being the narrator. The narrator had to think like Jesus and work out what Jesus would do next.

The Good Samaritan is a story Jesus told to help people understand how to love others. This week, Kindergarten students are making binoculars to remind us to be on the lookout for people we can help.

We also think we will be like The Good Samaritan on Friday, because The Good Samaritan gave money to someone in need.

Socktober
October is Mission Month and Socktober. Mission means connecting with other people, helping those in need, sharing the Gospel message through our actions. In this month, we go out of our way to help others, to be kind and thoughtful. Socktober invites schools to engage with mission in an holistic way within the head, heart, hands model: encouraging a learning mind, an open heart and hands for action.

On Friday, 15 October, Mt Carmel School will be called to serve to raise funds for those in need by hosting a fundraiser. Students are invited to come to school wearing crazy socks and donate a gold coin.

So pull on your crazy socks and kick goals to 'Sock it to Poverty!’

Matthew 28:18-20
All authority has been to Me in heaven and on earth,
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.

Reflection
The Pope’s prayer intention for the month of October 2021, Mission Month, is: “We pray that every baptised person may be engaged in evangelisation, available to the mission, by being witnesses of a life that has the flavour of the Gospel. Jesus asks us all, and you as well, to be missionary disciples. Are you ready?”
