Religious Education

Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to week 4 and the first day of November! Year 1's unit of work examines the Jewish culture and that Jesus was a Jew, underpinned by the inquiry statement
Everyone’s culture shapes who they are. This week 1AH shared what they have learnt about Jerusalem in Jesus’s time using the visible thinking strategy of See/Think/Wonder.

A few more students brought in items to talk about their culture:

Jonathan: I brought in a jar of vegemite and an Australian soccer jersey because they are Australian.

Rafaela: My mum was born in Chile and she speaks Spanish and so do I. I brought in a joke book written in Spanish.

Anna: I can speak and read in Chinese.

Catholic Mission Month
October is Mission Month and mission means connecting with other people, helping those in need, sharing the Gospel message through our actions. In this month, we go out of our way to help others, to be kind and thoughtful. Schools are invited to engage with mission in an holistic way within the head, heart, hands model: encouraging a learning mind, an open heart and hands for action.

All Saints’ Day Prayer Service

2LS led a beautiful prayer service today to celebrate All Saints’ Day.

All Saints’ Day is a Christian holiday and it is celebrated on November 1 in the Roman Catholic Church and on the first Sunday after Pentecost in the Eastern Orthodox Church. (Pentecost takes place 50 days after Easter.) It is officially known as the Sunday of All Saints in the Orthodox Church and as the Solemnity of All Saints in the Roman Catholic Church (Britannica Kids, 2022, (All Saints' Day).

All Saints Day Prayer
Bless the many parted souls
who lived their lives with grace.
Bless the saints in heaven,
gathered in that special place.
May we tell their stories
and remember all the ways
they lived their faith
and spent their days.
There is glory and reward,
even if at first there’s strife.
Oh, blessed saints, you help us see
a path that’s to eternal life.
May we always hold them dear
and know their life and place.
May we know their inspiration
and aspire to their grace.
Amen.
