Principal Report
Uniform Proposal
In order that the Mt Carmel School uniform has equitable summer uniform options for girls, a proposal has been approved by the school Community Council for presentation to the school community. The girls’ winter uniform already has the option of navy slacks with a white blouse, so the proposal is that a summer version of this uniform be made available. That is, that navy pleated shorts and a short-sleeved white blouse be added to the girls’ summer uniform as an optional alternative to the navy and white checked dress. The proposed items have price parity with the equivalent boys’ uniform. Any changes to the school’s uniform policy must be endorsed by at least 50% of the parent community. A survey seeking parent responses to this proposal is being sent home today and we ask all families to consider the proposal and respond by next Friday 6 September.
This Sunday is Father’s Day; I pray that all of the fathers, grandfathers and other men who are special in the lives of our children have a truely blessed day. This Friday, at 9am, 4SS will be hosting our Father’s Day prayer service. All families, but especially dads and other significant male role-models, are warmly invited to attend. Following the prayer service, Principal’s Awards will be presented and 5/6WZ will be sharing the class assembly items they have prepared.
Book Week
On Thursday last week, short-listed author and illustrator, Tohby Riddle, visited the school and spoke, amongst other things, about where to get ideas for stories, how to develop characters, and some of his illustration techniques. It was absolutely lovely to see so many family and friends at the Book Week costume parade last Friday. Thank you and congratulations to Mrs Turner and Mrs Patmore for all their work preparing for this wonderful event, and to our staff for their participation. The class displays featuring some of this year’s short-listed books will remain on show until this Friday.
Thanks to Emma Merriman, Deborah Donaldson, Tanya McPherson, Mrs Richardson, Chris Gold, Anthony Glover and Mat Broers for helping with the BBQ.
CSO Music in My School
Today an ensemble from the Canberra Symphony Orchestra visited Mt Carmel and performed a series of concerts for us. We are very pleased that students from Yass Public were able to join us and share in this wonderful musical experience. The orchestra took our students an a musical history tour, playing (tune) in a variety of arrangements that demonstrated the different musical styles of periods such as classical, baroque and medieval.

Ooshie Swap Meet
On Wednesday 4 September at lunch time, Mrs Helen Shaw will be hosting an Ooshie Swap Meet in the PAC. Any students looking to complete a set are invited to bring along any extras or duplicates that they are prepared to swap. Please only bring Ooshies that you want to swap, NOT any that you would like to keep.
May God’s peace be in your families,
