Principal Report
Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Student Leadership 2020
This Friday, nominations open for Year 5 students who are seeking formal leadership positions in 2020; that is, School Captains, Vice-Captains, House Captains and SRC Representatives. At Mt Carmel, our student leaders are appointed, not elected, and the process begins with students completing a nomination form addressing a selection criteria. These forms must be submitted by Friday 22 November, Week 6. Nominees then present a speech to the school in Week 7 and meet with an interview panel in Week 8. The panel will then decide on appointments, taking into consideration each nominee’s interview, application and feedback from students and teachers (via voting slips, following the speeches). I wish all who are considering nominating for these positions the very best.
2020 Planning
A request to any K-5 families moving from Mt Carmel at the end of this year: it would greatly assist our preparation for 2020 if you would send me an email, michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au as soon as possible indicating your intentions along with your destination. Much of this term is spent preparing for next year and our student numbers need to be accurate. Thank you for assisting us with this information gathering.
Talkfest
This Friday evening Mt Carmel has a number of students from Year 2 to Year 6 participating in the Talkfest Rostrum public speaking competition at Berinba School. Years 2 and 3 will present their speeches commencing at 6:30pm; Years 4, 5 and 6 commencing at approximately 7:30pm. I wish all our participants every success and commend them on their preparation.
BYOD Information Evening
Next Monday 18 November, at 6:00pm in the 5/6JH classroom, we will be holding an information evening for parents of Year 4 students about Mt Carmel’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Students are welcome to attend.
Kindergarten Cops
On Tuesday morning, KJG and KNB visited the Yass Police Station to meet Inspector Matthew Hinton, have a tour of the station and ask lots of questions. Everyone had a great time - it’s not every day that you get to handcuff the principal! The station was presented with a fabulous piece of Kinder artwork, which is now displayed on the station's street-side notice board; check it out when you’re walking past.
May God’s peace be in your families,
