Cooking in Japanese - Inari Sushi
For our last cooking experience of they year, we made Inari sushi which is vinegared rice tucked inside little deep-fried tofu pockets. Inari Sushi is easily one of the easiest sushi to make at home.
Inari Sushi or Inarizushi, is made of sushi rice that is stuffed inside seasoned deep-fried tofu pockets called Inari Age (pronounced [ah geh]). Inari Age is made by simmering tofu pockets in sweet and savoury dashi-based broth. After the tofu pouches absorb all the flavours, they are squeezed to remove the liquid and ready to be stuffed with sushi rice. These pouches can be purchased in Asian Grocery Shops.
How To Prepare
- Prepare sushi rice ahead of time.
- Once the sushi rice is prepared and cooled, open an inari tofu pocket and stuff a ball of rice inside.
- Sprinkle the inari sushi with some toasted sesame seeds or nori and serve with soy sauce.
