Principal Report

Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,

Drinking Water
As shared with families via email and SZapp on Sunday, Yass Valley Council has issued a ‘Boil Water Alert’ for Yass and, consequently, the playground bubblers at school will remain turned off until the alert is lifted. Latest advice from Council is that the alert will probably remain in place for at least one week, depending on how quickly the town water supply stabilises following the recent heavy rain. I ask all families to ensure their child/ren bring a water bottle from home each day, filled with either boiled, tank or bottled water. Click here for more information on the Boil Water Alert.

Feast of the Assumption Prayer Service
This coming Saturday, August 15, is the Feast of the Assumption, on which we celebrate Mary’s bodily ascension into heaven at the end of her earthly life. Each of us is called to be the best we can be as people of God. Mary, mother of Jesus, is a wonderful role model for all men and women, boys and girls—she represents courage, compassion and unconditional love. As Christians, we too should strive to demonstrate these qualities in our everyday actions, whether we are in the classroom, at home, on the sporting field or facing burdens in our life. 5/6ML will be leading a simultaneous school-wide prayer service on Friday to celebrate this important Feast Day. A link will be shared via SZapp and Facebook on Friday morning for families who would like to join us.

Annual Satisfaction Survey
The annual satisfaction survey for parents, students and staff closes next Wednesday, 19 August. The surveys are designed to gather feedback from parents, staff and students about our school and will be used to inform school improvement. Responses are confidential and individuals can not be identified. Parents, if you did not receive an email inviting you to respond or if you have not yet submitted a survey response, you can use the following link to do so:

Growing Up Digital Australia Survey
The Gonski Institute of Education at the University of NSW are working on a research project called Growing Up Digital Australia.  This international research project, in partnership with Harvard Medical School, the University of Alberta and Alberta Teachers Association, seeks to understand the health, wellbeing and learning impacts of growing up in a digital world on our young people. A number of Australian organisations are supporting this project, including Departments of Education, parent organisations and teacher associations. This longitudinal study will reframe issues surrounding children’s consumption of media and digital technologies moving into an evidence-based solutions to parents, educators and young people to live healthier, safer and happier lives here in Australia. The current phase of the project involves a survey, which will be open until 11 October, 2020.

If you are a parent, carer or grandparent of any child aged 5-17 and would like to read more about this project and participate in the survey, please follow the link below:
