Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Lest_we_Forget.jpg

Remembrance Day
Thank you to Miss Cassidy and 5/6TC for preparing our Remembrance Day prayer service. An extra-special thank you to our special guest, Sarah Watson, for sharing her story with us and for her insights into the significance of Remembrance Day. If you would like to view the prayer service, it can be accessed via the following link:

Student Leadership
This Friday, nominations open for Year 5 students who are seeking formal leadership positions in 2021; that is, School Captains, Vice-Captains, House Captains and SRC Representatives. At Mt Carmel, our student leaders are appointed, not elected, and the process begins with students completing a nomination form addressing a selection criteria. Nomination forms will be available from the school office on Friday morning. These forms must be submitted by Friday 20 November, Week 6. Nominees then present a speech to the school in Week 7 and meet with an interview panel in Week 8. The panel will then decide on appointments, taking into consideration each nominee’s interview, application and feedback from students and teachers (via voting slips, following the speeches). I wish all who are considering nominating for these positions the very best. Many families will be aware that I have a child in Year 5 this year. For the record, to avoid any conflict of interest I will be taking no part in any aspect of the selection process.

COVID Catchups
because of COVID-19 restrictions, several regular events on the school calendar have been missed this year and we are doing our best to make up for these. Because we have not been able to hold an evening disco, next Friday 20 November we will be holding a Daytime Disco: K-2 at Recess and 3-6 at Lunch. A flier with details is attached to this newsletter.

A big disappointment for Year 5 and 6 this year was missing out on school camp. In lieu of this, we will be holding an outdoor-education excursion to Warrambui on Friday of Week 7.

As of last Friday COVID restrictions have eased further, but still not to the extent that we are able to invite parents to attend assemblies, concerts and the like. We are still investigating what options are open to us for Christmas celebrations and End-of-Year Awards presentations. Rest assured, I will update you as soon as we have firm plans in place.

JP Services
For the information of families, I have recently been appointed a Justice of the Peace. If any JP services are required, please contact the school office for an appointment.

May God’s peace be in your families,
