Principal's Report
Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Stations of the Cross
Tomorrow, Holy Thursday, we will be holding a school-wide Stations of the Cross journey, commencing with a reenactment of the Last Supper at a morning Prayer Assembly. The Stations of the Cross will be set as prayer spaces, created by individual classes, in various locations throughout the school, and each class will make their journey through the Stations at different times throughout the day. Because this will be predominantly an indoor event this year, we are unable to invite parents to attend. We will, however, share an online version with the school community via our usual channels.
School Uniform
After the school holidays we return in winter school uniform. Likewise, the full school sports uniform should be worn on Tuesdays and Fridays; and, although it is an honour to be selected for representative sports, souvenir apparel is not part of our school uniform. I would like to request parent support to ensure that each child is complying with school uniform requirements. We hope wearing the uniform is a source of pride for our students. The school’s Uniform Policy is available on the website, under the Forms and Policies tab. Please help us to return misplaced items by ensuring that every item of your child’s uniform is clearly labelled with their name.
After a big clean-out of lost property, we have a number of school jumpers, in various condition ands sizes, all with no discernible name. Until the end of term, these jumpers will be available to inspect at the school office and for sale to any family, for the price of a small donation to Project Compassion.
Cross Country
The 3-6 Cross Country has been scheduled to be run in Week 1, on Friday 23 April at Walker Park. Students will be leaving school directly from morning lines to walk to the venue, with races commencing for 8-year-olds at approximately 9:30am. We will return to school in time for recess at 10:50am. Students in Year 2 who are turning 8 this year may compete at the 3-6 carnival; however, there will be a separate K-2 Cross Country event held at school from 12:30pm on the same day, so it is our recommendation that Year 2 participation in the 3-6 carnival is for serious runners only. Parents are welcome to attend both the 3-6 and K-2 carnivals as spectators but, again, please be mindful of COVID-19 restrictions: do not attend if you are experiencing any symptoms of respiratory illness and please practise appropriate social-distancing.
ANZAC Day
With Easter falling early in the calendar this year, ANZAC Day is at the end of Week 1 next term, rather than during the Easter Holidays as usually happens. We have been informed by the Yass Sub-Branch of the RSL that, because of COVID restrictions, there will be no march again this year. There will be a Commemorative Service at the Cenotaph at 11am, and representatives from Mt Carmel School will be laying a wreath as usual.
Happy Easter
And finally, I would like to wish all students, parents and staff a happy and holy Easter; may you all have a safe, restful and joy-filled break. For your information, in St Augustine’s Church there will be Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday at 7pm, Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Friday at 3pm, Easter Vigil on Saturday at 7pm and Easter Mass on Sunday at 10:15am.
A reminder that Term 2 commences for students on Tuesday 20 April.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Michael Green
Principal
