SIZZLE Weeks 1 & 2
The focus in SIZZLE for weeks 1 and 2 will be ‘Stay Calm with Others’.
Students will learn how to control their temper in conflict situations with others by identifying
angry feelings and using strategies to calm themselves and talk things out to avoid arguing and fighting. Staying calm with others means we don’t get mad or lose our temper with others. Instead, we think about our feelings, stay relaxed, and talk things out so everybody can work or play well together.
Students will be able to
- talk about the importance of staying calm with others,
- name feelings associated with staying calm with others,
- identify positive examples of this skill, and
- show how to stay calm with others.
Attached is the skill step card outlining the 4 steps of:
Step 1: FEEL if you are mad or upset.
Step 2: THINK about what is making you mad or upset.
Step 3: TALK things over with the other person.
Step 4: DO something to help you stay calm.
I encourage you to print and display the skills steps at home as a visual reminder for students.
