Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Archdiocesan Swimming in Queanbeyan
Well done to all of the students who were selected to represent Mt Carmel at the Archdiocesan Swimming Carnival in Queanbeyan yesterday and thank you to Mrs Mel Allan for being the Mt Carmel Team Manager for the day. Several personal bests were achieved on the day – an outstanding effort by all participants. Congratulations to Jack Ryan, Alexander Donaldson, Flynn Wullaert, Jed Newman and Kobe Walsh who will be competing at the NSWCPS Swimming Championships in Homebush on Tuesday 22 March. Good luck!
St Patrick’s Day
Next Thursday is St Patrick’s Day and we’re going green! The day will begin with a Prayer Assembly in the PAC, hosted by 4SS. All students are invited to wear green and bring a gold coin donation for Caritas’ Project Compassion.
Kindness Revolution
Thank you to our Stage 3 students who started our Kindness Revolution last week by placing messages of kindness on stones for our younger students to discover on the playground. Our house spirit challenge this week is to create an A4 Kindness poster to be displayed in our Kindness Corridor in preparation for the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence next Friday, 18th March with the 2022 theme being to develop a Kindness Culture.
Mana – The Spirit of Polynesia Incursion
On Friday 25 March, Week 8, we are very lucky to have Bernard Mangakahia visiting Mt Carmel School to perform Mana – The Spirit of Polynesia. The incursion will be for all students Kindergarten to Year 6, with a cost of $6.50 per student, which can be paid to the school office or via Qkr. A note with more information will be sent home today.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Jan Harvey
Assistant Principal
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 6! The last few weeks I have had the pleasure to spend time with both Kindergarten classes. During my first visit, I participated in Christian meditation followed by a discussion based on the statue of Jesus. The statue was used as a provocation to start a discussion on what they could: See, Think, Wonder about Jesus.
Mercy Chapel Visit: Kindergarten students missed out on receiving ashes on Ash Wednesday, due to their rest day, but visited our school’s chapel, Mercy Chapel, on Thursday. Mrs Karakotas sprinkled ashes on students’ heads.
KNB: We loved looking and touching the statues of the Holy Family and Mary MacKillop!
KJG: We loved looking at the stained glass windows!

Reflection
During Lent we are called to prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We are called to make an inward personal journey, to undertake an interior investigation that we sometimes avoid because of a fast-paced life that can have us constantly preoccupied with others, family, work, etc. Lent is a season for renewed prayer and seeing within; an opportunity to confront and seek forgiveness, to examine the times when have given into temptation and to return to the arms of God’s love, mercy and light (© Catholic Leaders Formation Network 2022).

My name is Jake Pholi, and I can’t wait to meet all of you this year! I am in the Hartigan house, and I LOVE dogs! I also like playing touch, bike riding, and building lego. I have four pets: Jasper and Brody - the dogs, and Lilah and Annabelle - the cats. I also have three younger siblings who all go to Mt Carmel too. My role this year is the SRC Year 6 representative, so if you need something, or have an idea for a new club, new equipment, or anything to do with school I am the guy to see. I really want to hear from you about all the great ideas you may have to make this an extra fun school year!
Stage 3 have started a Kindness revolution! Our younger students loved discovering these special messages around the playgrouns today.
