Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
I wish all our students, parents and teachers a very warm welcome to Term 2 and I hope that the holiday break was a refreshing and relaxing time for all. My sincere thanks to all who were able to join us to represent Mt Carmel at the Yass ANZAC Day parade last Monday. That so many in our community were prepared to give up time in their holidays to honour the service of others is truly admirable. It was also lovely to be joined by eight ex-Mt Carmel students who marched with us in their secondary uniforms representing Trinity Catholic College. Congratulations to 5/6AB and Mrs Abbott for leading our Anzac Day Prayer Assembly this morning, and special thanks to our guests, Sarah Watson and Andre Hillege, whose contributions helped to make the event so special.
COVID Update
The latest COVID-19 Update was sent to all families via Compass Notification yesterday and, for the most part, things will go on at school in the same manner as the end of last term. The most notable change is that close household contacts will no longer be required to isolate for seven days and may attend school, as long as they are symptom free and test negative on a daily Rapid Antigen Test. Any positive cases should still be reported to the school as we have reporting obligations and so that we can monitor for possible local transmission and respond accordingly. We are scheduled to receive another delivery of RATs for distribution to families this week.
School Uniform
Our students look fabulous in their winter uniform. Thank you to all our parents for being so supportive of our uniform policy. A reminder that the school hat is not compulsory during Terms 2 and 3. The uniform shop has been running hot as the weather gets colder; a reminder that the uniform shop is open for sizing and sales on Tuesday afternoons and orders placed via the Qkr App are dispatched on Wednesdays. If you have purchased new uniform, please ensure that every item is clearly labeled with your child’s name.
2023 Enrolments
Our enrolment drive for 2023 has already begun. The official enrolment period for Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese runs from Monday 2 May until Friday 27 May. If you have a pre-school child ready for Kindergarten, it’s time to enrol now. Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn has an online enrolment form, which can be accessed by clicking the link below. If you need to access a hard-copy form, please contact the Front Office. An interview will be organised once the enrolment application is received. If your friends have a child starting in Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to consider Mt Carmel as an option for their children’s education. We will be holding Open Day tours on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 May, with a Parent Information Evening in the Lacey Library at 6pm on Wednesday 18 May.

Playgroup
I am happy to announce that the Mt Carmel Playgroup will be recommencing this term from Thursday 12 May, Week 3. Playgroup will run from 9am to 11am each Thursday in the Playgroup Room off the Dutton Street entrance to the Performing Arts Centre. The cost is $3 for the first child, then $1 for any additional children and includes morning tea. We are very excited to have playgroup back after a long hiatus. All are welcome; spread the word!
School Photos
School photos will take place on Monday 9 May (Week 3); students are to wear their full winter uniform, including jumper. This year, photo orders can be placed via the your child’s Compass profile. If you experience any difficulty accessing this, please contact the school office. Families with three or more siblings at the school are eligible for a free family portrait if they order three individual student packs but need to call MSP directly on 6255 9208 to organise this deal.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-Teacher Interviews are commencing tomorrow and will be held via Teams throughout the day; you should have received a Compass notification before the holidays with information about your child(ren)’s teacher’s interview day. If you have not yet booked a meeting time and would like to, go to your child’s profile on Compass and click the 'Book Parent Student Teacher Conference' link. You will then need to click the My Bookings button followed by the teacher’s name to see which time slots are available.
Northern Region Cross Country
On Friday we have 49 students travelling to Crookwell to represent Mt Carmel at the Northern Region Cross Country. I wish all participants the very best of luck.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Term 2! It is fantastic to see everyone after the holidays and I hope you all had a lovely Easter with family and friends.
Easter Prayer Service
Mt Carmel teachers and Fr Peter led a special prayer service this morning to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
ANZAC Day Prayer Service
5/6AB led a beautiful prayer service today to remember and honour those who fought to protect our beautiful lands. It is also an important day for us to stop and pray for peace – peace in our world, peace among people in our own country, peace in our families, and peace in our own hearts.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who supported our Cake Stall fundraiser for Carita’s Project Compassion - Ukraine Appeal. We raised $491.50.
Mt Carmel has raised $2022.70 for Caritas Project Compassion! Thank you for your support and donations for this great cause.
Gospel and Reflection
A reading from the Gospel according to John.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Just as my Father has loved me so I have loved you. Make sure that I keep on loving you. If you obey me I will keep on loving you, just as I have obeyed my father and He keeps on loving me. My command to you is this: love one another, just as I love you. The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them. You are my friends if you do what I command you to do.”
