Tomorrow is the night that I will be joining a number of Catholic School Principals and business leaders to sleep rough at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra and raise much needed money for those in our community who can't afford the basics — food, education, utilities and even a place to call home. My personal goal was to raise $2000 for Vinnies, and with your help I have already exceeded this amount. My grateful thanks to all who have contributed to this important cause. And on last week’s Beanie Day, the students contributed over $250 in gold-coin donations — enough to help Vinnies relocate a person who is sleeping rough to accommodation services, or to feed a family for a week. If you would still like to chip in, it’s not too late; go to https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/michaelgreen/canberra to make a donation.
Semester One Reports
Semester One Reports will be published to parents via Compass on Friday 1 July. We will not be holding formal Parent-Teacher Interviews at this time as these were held at the beginning of the term, but parents are always welcome to make an individual appointment with their child’s teacher any time they would like to discus their child’s progress.
First Communion
Congratulations to the students who made their First Communion on the weekend. It was a lovely Mass and Morning Tea and a very important step in our children’s faith journey. These students, and any others in the school who have received the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, are now able to undertake training to serve on the altar at Mass. Serving on the altar helps children to become more engaged with the Mass and to better understand its rituals. It is also a great way to encourage our children to become active citizens, with a positive attitude towards community service. Please contact the parish or the school office if your child would like to help with this special job. My special thanks to Di Carey who, after 12 years of helping our students prepares for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation, is retiring from the parish sacramental team.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 9! Year 5/6 students have been praying, reflecting and breaking open scripture through the CSYMA Junior Prayer Journal: Daily Talks with God. The prayer journal contains five entries for each week: Giving Thanks, Forgiveness, Scripture Reflection, Praying for Intentions, and Journaling the Week. On Thursdays, Mt Carmel’s Youth Minister, Clare, leads the Praying for Intentions entry.
Fr Peter spoke to Mt Carmel students about his story as a refugee and how he travelled from Vietnam to Australia by boat. Thank you for sharing your amazing story, Fr Peter!

Prayer
Our Father,
We pray, in Jesus’ name, for all who hunger and thirst for meaning in their lives and friendship in our communities.
Give us this day our daily bread that we might be bread blessed and broken for others.
Amen

Northern Region Athletics
Well done to all those students who represented Mt Carmel at the Northern Region athletics carnival in Goulburn on Friday. I will publish names of students going through to the Archdiocesan carnival when I receive the results from the organisers. Ribbons for those events will be sent to the school to be distributed at a later date.

The Scholastic truck finally arrived last Wednesday to pick up all the trolleys from the Book Fair. We then could complete the final count of the books sold. Amazingly, $5464.00 worth of books were sold which allows the Library to purchase $1533.00 worth of books for the students at Mt Carmel.
Thank you to all the students, parents and grandparents who supported this special event.

Go Kobe - we are proud of you!
Congratulations to the young people in our parish who made their First Holy Communion on Sunday. The joy and reverence they displayed made it a prayerful celebration.
Thank you to everyone involved with the ceremony: the parents and communicants who prepared so well over the last few months; Fr Peter, Kassie Miller and Mandy Leahy who assisted with the preparation day last Friday; Peter Cleary for the lovely decorations on the altar; Peter, Charlotte Alexander and Mackenna Leahy for acolyte and altar serving; Anne Eade, Annabelle O’Connell, Michael Green, Jan Harvey, Linda Swadling, Deanna Dorris and the children from Mt Carmel who played and sang so beautifully at Mass; Kassie, Linda, Mandy, Eva and Annabelle who helped with making the stoles; the teachers, parents and students from Mt Carmel, and the parishioners, who prayed for the communicants, attended Mass and assisted with morning tea in support of their special day.
Finally, I would like to thank the present and past members of the Sacramental Team in Yass and Gunning, and all the families I have worked with over the last twelve years. It was a privilege and pleasure working with you and guiding the young people of our parish as they prepared for approximately 750 sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation.
