Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
COVID Restrictions and Sporting Events
I am pleased to be able to confirm that, despite a higher level of COVID restrictions this term, any pathways sporting events (that is, events from which students may be selected to progress to a higher level, i.e. the Archdiocesan Athletics carnival, MacKillop trials etc.) will be able to proceed as planned.
Yass Valley SPIN Pyjama Day
This Friday, 29 July, come to school in your PJs in return for a gold coin donation to support those in our Community in need of medical assistance.
100 Days of Kindergarten
Next Monday 1 August is a milestone for our youngest students… one hundred days of big school. Time flies when you’re having fun! KJG and KNB will mark the day with a fun exploration of the number 100.
Life Education
Due to illness and availability of educator presenters, the Life Education van is no longer coming to Mt Carmel this week, so we are looking at possible date for rescheduling a visit. For now, the payment option on Qkr has been closed. If we are able to reschedule we will hold over funds from those who have already paid; if it is not possible to reschedule, refunds will be credited to your school fee accounts. Our sincere apologies for the disappointment and inconvenience.
CWA Poster Competition
The annual CWA Poster Competition is on again, and this year’s focus country is Latvia. Students in Kindergarten and Year 1 can submit a colouring-in sheet, which can be collected from the office or downloaded from this newsletter; students from Year 2 and above can submit a poster on a large sheet of cardboard, containing pictures and written information about Latvia, or they can submit a postcard to family or friends (template also available from the office or downloadable) describing an interesting event, sights or travels in Latvia, or that can submit a travel journal (suggested format is a standard exercise book) telling of a week’s holiday, real or imagined, in Latvia.
Ideas for entries include national dress, food, buildings, cultural events, etc.
All entries must be received at the school office by 9am Friday 12 August (Week 4) and need to have the student’s school, class, name and age displayed on the back.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 2! Last term Year 1 students visited Lovat Chapel to look for different messages that are communicated through the stained glass windows and the statues.
Feast Day of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Celebrations - Thursday 21 July 2022
The whole school attended a special Mass to celebrate the feast day of our school, Our Lady of Mt Carmel, at St Augustine’s Church, led by our Parish Priest Fr Peter My. Cupcakes were handed out after Mass for a special treat. After recess, students participated in Mt Carmel Day activities related to Our Lady of Mt Carmel (Trivia, Art activities, Word Search).
Students learnt that in Galilee, where Jesus lived, Mt Carmel is known as “the meeting place for God and His people.” On Mt Carmel day in 1876, the foundation stone for the Convent of Mercy was laid. Jesus’ mother, Our Lady of Mt Carmel, has been a patron of our school since then. Our Lady of Mt Carmel helps, protects and cares for us.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News

Prayer
Heavenly Father I continue to lay down before you my intercessions
(Pause for 20 seconds of silence and call to mind the people and loved ones that need your prayers)
I lay these friends, family and concerns at your feet.
May you provide and fill them with your blessing and a special grace to give them what they need.
Amen.

We are planning the Book Week parade on Friday 26th August on the playground.
All children are asked to come dressed up as a book character on the Friday. Please use any dress ups you have at home or swap with a friend/cousin. It is not meant to be a costly event. I encourage that students have a copy of their book to carry with them when they parade. They can borrow from our library or bring the book from your home library.
We will also be having a sausage sizzle on the Friday to celebrate this special day.
There will be more news as Book Week gets closer.
Hoping you enjoy this special time with your children. We are having special moments in our Library lessons!
Regards
Ev Turner
