Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Father’s Day Prayer Service and Assembly
This Sunday is Father’s Day; I pray that all of the fathers, grandfathers and other men who are special in the lives of our children have a truly blessed day. This Friday, at 9am, 2TD will be hosting our Father’s Day prayer service. So that we can invite guests, we will be holding the prayer service outside at morning lines. All families, but especially dads and other significant male role-models, are warmly invited to attend.
Book Week Parade
Last Friday’s costume parade was a tremendous success. It was a magnificent afternoon and it was just fantastic to be able to welcome families to join us for the event. The Dream Machine certainly captured the imagination of teachers and students alike, but I am very grateful to have all our teachers back again! My congratulations and sincere thanks to Mrs Turner and Mrs Patmore, who every year go above and beyond to make Book Week such a wonderful and exciting experience for all our students. Congratulations also to the classroom teachers whose creative guidance helped our students produce such engaging displays in the Library for everyone to explore. Special thanks to Tanya McPherson, Deborah Donalson, Matt Doyle and Tom Johnson for assisting with our BBQ lunch.
Parent Survey on Student Wellbeing and Learning
Catholic School Parents Australia (CSPA) is inviting parents and carers to have their say as to what matters to them regarding the wellbeing and learning of their child(ren). The CSPA 2022 Parent Survey closes today. The survey feedback will assist CSPA in reporting to the Federal Government and Catholic education; all feedback will remain anonymous.

Free to a Good Home
We have recently replaced the gas ovens in our Kitchen Classroom with electric ones, leaving us with four 60cm Chef natural gas ovens to dispose of. They have four burners and a fan-forced oven with a separate grill, and are in excellent condition, having had limited use — mostly baking cakes and biscuits and warming food. We are prepared to give them away for free to anyone in the Mt Carmel community, you will just need to arrange collection. Please contact the school office if you are interested.
Term Dates
Please note that the last day of Term 3 for students will be Wednesday 21 September. Term 4 will commence on Tuesday 11 October and will conclude on Friday 16 December.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 7! Year 3’s Religious Education unit of work focuses on the Jewish people having a special relationship with God. During my visit to 3MA, students explored St Patrick’s prayer, The Deer’s Cry, and used it as a provocation to design a shield. Students were asked to use symbols that represent the below verses from The Deer’s Cry:
Christ with me, Christ before me
Christ behind me, Christ in me
Below are students’ shields:
Covenant displays:
Feast Day of our Parish, St Augustine
Last Thursday, 3MA led a beautiful prayer service to celebrate the feast day of our parish patron, St Augustine. St. Augustine teaches us that no matter how far you may stray from God’s love, God will always take you back.

Todd Woodbridge Cup Tennis
Congraulations to all the participants who competed today at the Hume Tennis Club. We hope you enjoyed the day. I will have the results in next week’s newsletter.
Sullivan’s Shield Rugby League
Well done to all those students who competed in the Sullivan’s Shield Rugby League Tournament in Canberra yesterday. The 3/4 team went through undefeated and the 5/6 team won two games and drew another with only 10 players! Thanks to Trish Donoghue for coaching the 3/4 team and Andrew Harding for coaching the 5/6 team. Without parent volunteers, these days would not be possible. Thanks also to Mrs Mel Allan who volunteered as the staff representative for the day. Again, without staff members willing to attend these events, Mt Carmel could not compete.
NSW Touch Yass Gala Day
The Touch Gala Day has set a new date, Tuesday 13 September. Details will be shared with families shortly.

We are starting to prepare for the Boorowa Touch and Netball Competition which will be held in Term 4 on 21st October 2022. Registration and payment for the event will be through Qkr! and will go up in the coming weeks. Entries will be school-based, year level teams formed with fairness and fun in mind. Lacey Library News - Book Week
Dreaming…. with eyes open !
What a special week we celebrated at Mt Carmel School. The library changed into a place of excitement and discovery. The book displays by all the classes were very creative and showed their feelings about the CBCA book they studied; thank you, teachers.
At recess story time was held in the library and thank you to Mr Green and Mrs Harvey for reading stories to K-6. The year 5 Library Monitors told a story through dance to the music of the “Greatest Showman”. Friday was a perfect sunny day for the Book Week Parade, where we saw many interesting book characters. The students looked fabulous! The staff came in their dressing gowns “Dreaming of what they would like to be”, but then the Dream Machine started to operate and with a puff of smoke, teachers were coming out in their new careers!
A special thank you to Tanya McPherson, Deborah Donaldson, Matt Doyle and Tom Johnson for cooking and organising the BBQ so the students could enjoy a warm sausage sandwich for lunch. A very special thank you to Mrs Lynne Patmore for her creativity and extra help. Book Week is a special time for our students and it allows the library to change for two weeks and show how your children celebrate literature through their class displays guided by their creative teachers.
Author Visit - 6 September
Harry Laing is a poet, children's author, creative writing teacher and comic performer, who will be visiting Mt Carmel to run workshops with the students on Tuesday 6 September.
