Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Sacrament of Confirmation
At this Sunday’s Parish Mass, we have 13 students from our school and parish receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. The Confirmandi will be attending a reflection day tomorrow, and we pray for these students as they prepare for this special day:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.
There will be a Morning Tea after Mass, and all families are warmly invited to join this community celebration.
Daytime Disco
This Friday, students are invited to wear mufti to school for our Mini Vinnies Daytime Disco. Kindergarten to Year 2 will have their disco at Recess, and Years 3-6 will have theirs at lunch. There will also be treats available to purchase, and all funds raised will be donated to Vinnies. There are also house points on offer for individuals and groups who choreograph a creative dance for our House Spirit Dance-off challenge.
Artist In Residence
A quick but sincere thank you to Jake Wullaert, our unofficial Artist in Residence, who has been putting his talents to great use lately. In the last week alone, Jake has assisted with the Japanese Manga incursion, run a demonstration workshop for the lunchtime Art Club and provided a magnificent original illustration for Father’s Day cards that were presented to parishioners at Mass on Sunday. Well done, Jake!
Stage 3 Camp
Next week our Year 5 and 6 students will be heading off to Stanwell Tops for three days of fun-filled outdoor adventures on our school camp. We are very excited to be heading off to a proper camp for the first time in three years!
I will be attending the camp, along with the Year 5/6 teachers, and Mrs Harvey will be Acting Principal in my absence.
Announcing the Mt Carmel 2022 Colour Run and World Teachers’ Day
In the same way that we haven’t had to opportunity to go on a school camp for the last three years, neither have we been able to have our traditional school walkathon. This year, though, we’ll be celebrating spring with a splash of colour on the Mt Carmel School Colour Run day. The Colour Run will be held on Friday 28 October, which is also Australian World Teachers’ Day – another great reason to celebrate!
This will be our first major fundraiser for three years, and we’re looking forward to trying something different. Details of our fundraising goal and prizes that can be won will be sent home early next week, so keep an eye out!
There are cash prizes for first, second and third place. Full details about the competition can be found by following the above link to the Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People’s website.
Term Dates
Please note that the last day of Term 3 for students will be Wednesday 21 September. Term 4 will commence on Tuesday 11 October and will conclude on Friday 16 December.
Welcome to Week 8! 4SS started their new Religion unit through a provocation to pique their interest about how things work. Students worked in groups to take apart a toy or a simple mechanical device to investigate how it works. Each group shared their findings with the rest of the class.
Some interesting insights from the students:
Jack: This is like Science not Religion.
Olivia: We have to have all pieces working together.
Rushad: Different parts help us with our faith journey.
Lola: When you pull things apart you can learn new things.
Sofia: Our belief and faith help us make things work.
Thank you to 2TD for leading us in a beautiful prayer service to celebrate Father’s Day.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
This Friday is the dance challenge! Have you got your dance ready?
Confirmation
On Sunday 11 September 2022, thirteen students from our school and parish community will unite to celebrate their Confirmation. The celebration will take place at St Augustine's Church at 10:30am and we extend a warm welcome to everyone. We thank you in advance and look forward to celebrating this very special occasion with our Confirmandi participants.
Gospel and Reflection
Luke 14:25-33 The Cost of Being a Disciple
Reflection
“Anyone who does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” Jesus makes it very clear that choosing to follow him is not an easy task. Being a disciple means setting aside the constraints of this world or rather, putting your relationship with Jesus first. This was hard for the disciples, and it is hard for us.
We are models of what this kind of discipleship means today. How do you make room for Jesus in your day? In your week? How does it shape how you approach others? How do you put love of God and love of Jesus first? (Janina Starkey, Assistant Principal, St Patrick’s Marist Dundas)

Both coaches of our teams that went to the Sullivan’s shield also had high praise for the behaviour of the Mt Carmel students who attended the day. Well done, boys and girls, you are terrific ambassadors for the school!

You can now register and pay for students wanting to participate in the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival through Qkr! The carnival is in Term 4 on Friday 21st October 2022. Just a reminder that all teams will be school-based teams with preference being given to creating evenly matched teams that will have fun on the day. All student in 2-6 are encouraged to attend as there will be minimal supervision at school. To register your child/children for the carnival, you will need to add your child's payment to the Qkr! payment cart, and you will then be promoted to complete their registration form.

Japanese Cooking - Okinawan Andagi
This week in Japanese, we have been making Okinawan Andagi. Andagi is an Okinawan fried donut with a crunchy outside, cake like inside, and the perfect local Japanese dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup evaporated milk
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- To a pot or wok set over medium heat add cooking oil of choice.
- While the oil is heating up, prepare the dough. To a large bowl add flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- To another bowl add eggs and whisk to combine. Then add the evaporated milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla. Mix until well combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Do not over mix or beat as your dough will be tough.
- Once the oil has reached 180 degrees, begin to fry the dough. Using a cookie scoop or your hands drop golf ball sized amounts of the dough into the oil. Fry for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown. The dough balls will begin to rise once it begins to cook. Flip the andagi halfway through the cooking time to ensure even cooking.
- Remove the andagi from the oil and set on a paper towel or cooling rack to drain excess oil and ENJOY! いただきます!
