Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
The Community Council are hosting a School Fun Run’s Crazy Colour Day as a major fundraising event this year! The event will be held next term in Week 3 on Friday, 28 October. We are really hoping to raise funds to make our play spaces more creative and colourful. Sponsorship flyers and information letters have been sent home with your child. Once you have the form, you can sign up for a Student Profile Page at www.schoolfunrun.com.au. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and possibly win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package.
Students who raise $10 or more can claim a reward. The more money you raise the better the reward, and the more you help the school achieve our fundraising goal. We are encouraging all students to participate and we are looking forward to this great day for our community. Information about how parent volunteers can help on the day will be sent out early next term. Thank you for your continued support of Mt Carmel and we look forward to sharing this wonderful event with the students next term.
NSW Children’s Week Art Competition
For those looking for a creative activity to pass some time in the school holidays, the Children’s Week Art Competition could be for you! The Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People together with the NSW Children’s Week Council is inviting entries for the NSW Children’s Week 2022 Art Competition. The competition is open to all children and young people up to the age of 18 living in NSW. It’s not about being a good artist, it’s about finding inspiration and sharing your voice through art. Group entries are encouraged and allowed. To enter, create an artwork based on one of the following prompts: either draw yourself doing something fun - e.g, dressing up in your favourite costume, eating your favourite food or playing with friends; or, draw a picture of you doing something that keeps you feeling healthy and happy. Entries close on Friday 7 October and need to be submitted online at the following address: https://www.acyp.nsw.gov.au/nsw-childrens-week-2022-art-competition.
There are cash prizes for first, second and third place. Full details about the competition can be found by following the above link to the Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People’s website.
Happy Holidays
Today is the last day of Term 3 for students. My sincere thanks to all teachers, students and families for a wonderful and hard-working term. I hope that everyone has a restful and enjoyable holiday break, that all who are travelling return safely home, and that everyone comes back to school refreshed and ready for a strong finish to the school year. Please note that students return for Term 4 on Tuesday 11 October in summer sports uniform.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Week 10, the last week of this term! During my visit to 4ML students were learning about St Paul and his missionary work. The task was to develop a profile of St Paul:
Who was St Paul?
When did he live?
What did he do?
Where did he go?
What are five interesting facts about St Paul?
Some interesting insights from students:
Juliette: No matter what happened to Paul he still believed in God.
Zoe: His original name was Saul and he was blinded by God.
Rosie: Paul was a follower of God and he became a Christian despite being thrown rocks.
Jordan: Paul used to be named Saul and he was not a good person before he became a missionary disciple.
Year 1 students have learnt that we have significant role models in our lives who shape who we are. Learning experiences explored students’ role models and how they influence them. Students were able to make connections to biblical role models, Mary, Jesus and Moses, who influence them too.
October is Mission Month. Mission means connecting with other people, helping those in need, sharing the Gospel message through our actions. In this month, we go out of our way to help others, to be kind and thoughtful. Socktober invites schools to engage with mission in an holistic way within the head, heart, hands model: encouraging a learning mind, an open heart and hands for action.
This year, we’re focusing our efforts on supporting young people, especially infants, facing food insecurity and malnutrition in Ethiopia. You can read all about it here https://www.socktober.org.au/ethiopia.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
On Friday, 14 October, Mini Vinnies will be called to serve to raise funds for those in need by hosting a fundraiser event for Mission Month. Students are invited to come to school wearing crazy socks and donate a gold coin.
So pull on your crazy socks and kick goals to 'Sock it to Poverty!’
Let us be still and ask the Holy Spirit to be with us. Be with us as we pray.
Open our ears to hear your Word in the Gospel.
Unite us in faith, hope and love as we pray together.
Send your Holy Spirit to inspire and sustain us in our mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
I invite you to participate in a 3 minute prayer reflecting on a Scripture passage. https://www.loyolapress.com/3-minute-retreats-daily-online-prayer/.

Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival
You can now register and pay for students wanting to participate in the Boorowa Touch and Netbal Carnival through Qkr! The carnival is in Term 4 on Friday 21st October. Just a reminder that all teams will be school-based teams with preference being given to creating evenly matched teams that will have fun on the day. We have already started placing students in teams as the organisers of the carnival are finalising the draw.
We ask that all registrations be in by COB Friday 23/9/22 so that we can rearrange teams as necessary and notify the organisers. If you know your child will not be attending the carnival, please email the school. Transport to the carnival is by personal vehicle.
We will require one referee/umpire per team so if you are able to assist or know someone who can (siblings and friends welcome!), please let me know via the front office.
