Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Welcome to Term 4
A very warm welcome back to all our students, staff and families. I do hope that the two-week break was restful and enjoyable for everyone. Term 4 is always busy and I’m sure that this year will be no exception. With the further easing of COVID restrictions throughout the wider community, we are looking forward to being able to hold our regular Term 4 and end-of-year events as normal — the proper normal, not the ’new normal’! Our school can proceed with all activities in the regular (pre-COVID) way, keeping COVID-Safe practices in mind.
As always, we ask all students and staff to stay at home if unwell, in deference to the health and wellbing of all in our community.
Crazy Sock Day this Friday
This Friday, Mt Carmel Mini-Vinnies are inviting everyone to wear 'Crazy Socks' to school and bring a gold-coin donation to help 'Sock-it to Poverty'. Further details can be found in the Religious Education Report below.
Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival
Unfortunately, the Boorowa carnival has been cancelled — the ongoing wet weather has made the Boorowa Showgrounds unusable. For those families who have already paid fees for the carnival, these will be refunded as a remittance against your Term 4 school fees.
Colour Run Fun Day
There are a little over two weeks to go until the Colour Run day, so there’s still plenty of time for students to seek sponsorship and help us to raise money to make our play spaces more creative and colourful. If you haven’t yet started, sign up for a Student Profile Page at www.schoolfunrun.com.au. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and possibly win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation will be commencing next Wednesday 19 October, Week 2, and will run for three consecutive weeks. We will have staggered start-times commencing at 9:20am to reduce anxiety at drop-off and minimise congestion in the classrooms. Parents of new Kinder students should have received their start-times by email earlier this week; please contact the school office if you are unsure of your child’s starting time. Orientation concludes at 12:30pm. We are very excited to be able to welcome our new students to Mt Carmel; Kindergarten Orientation is a very important step on the journey to starting ‘Big School’.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to Term 4! It is fantastic to see everyone after the holidays and I hope you have had a restful break with family and friends.
In Term 3, Year 2's unit of work focused on stewardship of creation. Students watched the documentary ‘2040’ to provoke their interest about the future of our world. During my visit to 2TD, I asked students what they thought was important about being stewards of our world.
Some interesting insights from students:
Sophie: It is about taking care of the earth.
Benji: It is important to look after our world and help others.
Eddie: We need to look after our planet.
Jess: God created our planet and we need to look after it.
Zoey: It is our job to look after our planet.
Max: I look after my world by picking up rubbish.
Catholic Mission Month
October is Mission Month and Socktober. Mission means connecting with other people, helping those in need, sharing the Gospel message through our actions. In this month, we go out of our way to help others, to be kind and thoughtful. Socktober invites schools to engage with mission in an holistic way within the head, heart, hands model: encouraging a learning mind, an open heart and hands for action.
This year, we’re focusing our efforts on supporting young people, especially infants, facing food insecurity and malnutrition in Ethiopia. You can read all about it here - https://www.socktober.org.au/ethiopia.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
On Friday, 14 October, Mini Vinnies will be hosting a fundraiser event for Mission Month to raise funds for those in need. Students are invited to come to school wearing crazy socks and donate a gold coin.
So pull on your crazy socks and kick goals to 'Sock it to Poverty!’
Marian Procession - Year of Walking Together
Sunday 23 October - Begins at 11am
Join local parishes, ethnic communities, clergy and religious for a unique multicultural family day of prayer and festivities. Located on the scenic grounds of St Clements Retreat Centre in Galong, we will gather for Mass, to pray the rosary and be inspired by speakers. BYO lunch, enjoy a sausage sizzle or bring a plate to share. There will be faith-based activities for children and an opportunity to meet new and old friends within our Archdiocese as we journey through Mary to Jesus. https://bit.ly/MarianProcession2022
Prayer
Dear Creator God, create in us a new sense of solidarity with the poor. Give us the courage to reach out to the excluded, the energy to walk with the lost and the words to encourage the lonely. May we pour out our lives in service. Unite us in faith, hope and love as we pray together.
Send your Holy Spirit to inspire and sustain us in our mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
