Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Colour Run Fun Day
There is now just over one weeks to go until the Colour Run day, and there’s still time for students to seek sponsorship and help us to raise money to make our play spaces more creative and colourful. If you haven’t yet started, sign up for a Student Profile Page at www.schoolfunrun.com.au. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and possibly win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package. We are keeping our fingers crossed with regards to the weather, as the rainfall forecast for the end of this week and into the weekend may impact our ability to hold the event next Friday if the school ovals are too wet to safely use. We will send an update to families this Friday, with details of what to expect on the day, including a backup plan if our grounds are too wet.
World Teachers’ Day
Australia celebrates World Teachers’ Day next Friday 28 October. I am conscious of the cliché, but teaching truly is a noble profession and I am grateful every day for the generosity, talent, patience, commitment and, above all, love that our wonderful teachers bring to their work. I encourage every student at Mt Carmel to take the time to personally thank their teacher next Friday.
Class Placements 2023
Parents are invited to email me with regard to any considerations you may have for your child’s class placement for 2023. These considerations should be important for the education and wellbeing of your child. Requests for a particular teacher, gender of a teacher, multiple friends etc, are usually not appropriate nor a priority. It is very important for parents to understand that creating classes is detailed and exacting work completed by the teachers to ensure that your child is placed in an appropriate class group each year. When considering class groupings, teachers will look specifically at your child’s educational and social needs and place them with a teacher and peers that will support their development. Requests are to be emailed to me at: michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au by Friday 4 November 2022. Requests received after this date may not be able to be considered. Please be aware that each request will be considered separately and by no means are all requests met. Requests from previous years are not kept on file or considered, as situations change each year. If you would like a previous request to be considered again, you are asked to send in a new request for 2023.
Departing Students
Schools are required to record destination schools for all departing students. If there are any K-5 families moving from Mt Carmel at the end of this year send me an email (michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible indicating your intentions along with your destination. Much of this term is spent preparing for next year and our student numbers need to be accurate. Thank you for assisting us with this information gathering.
Social Media and E-Safety Webinar for Parents
In partnership with the eSafety Commissioner, the Council of Catholic School Parents (CCSP) is offering all parents, carers, teachers and support staff the opportunity to join a free webinar designed for parents and carers of students. Attendees can learn about TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube to help stay safe and have fun online.
The free Webinar is taking place on Wednesday 26 October, from 7.30-8.30pm. To register for the webinar, go to https://register.gotowebinar.com/rt/7769162777892157452.
More information can be found in a flier attached to this newsletter.
League Stars Program
The NRL is running a 6-week after school League Stars program open to children aged 5-12 years on Monday afternoons, between 4:30and 5:30pm at Mt Carmel on the Lower Grass. If the oval is too wet to use, the clinics will be run on the Sports Courts. A flier is attached to this newsletter; you can register your child by going to www.leaguestars.com.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to week 2! In Term 3, Year 2's unit of work focused on stewardship of creation. Students watched the documentary ‘2040’ to provoke their interest about the future of our world. During my visit to 2LS, I asked students what they thought was important about being stewards of our world.
Some interesting insights from students:
Atticus: 2LS came up with the sentences for the Creation story and two students drew a drawing for each day.
George: We are learning about the Creation story and we have started to learn about the Rainbow Serpent.
Alia: We are learning about God's creation and we have drawn the seven days of creation. People have been put here to look after the land, animals and nature.
Evelyn: We are learning about stewardship and that means looking after our world.
Jasper: It is part of Heidi’s culture. The Rainbow Serpent looks after our world.

Join local parishes, ethnic communities, clergy and religious for a unique multicultural family day of prayer and festivities. Located on the scenic grounds of St Clements Retreat Centre in Galong, we will gather for Mass, to pray the rosary and be inspired by speakers. There will be faith-based activities for children and an opportunity to meet new and old friends within our Archdiocese as we journey through Mary to Jesus.
