Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Colour Run Fun Day
Just in case anyone missed the announcement in Monday, we have had to postpone the Colour Fun Day that was scheduled for Friday as the grounds are too wet to safely use. Now we not only have frogs on the oval, but a pair of ducks have now moved in too! Although a new date for the Fun Day has not yet been settled, the dates for fundraising and prize-claiming have been fixed and will not change. Prizes must be claimed online between Friday 28 October and Tuesday 1 November: click on “Order Prizes” on your child’s profile page. Fundraising is open until Tuesday 1 November. As soon as a new date for the Fun day is set, we will let you know.
World Teachers’ Day
Australia celebrates World Teachers’ Day this Friday 28 October, and the theme this year is “Hats off to Teachers". I am conscious of the cliché, but teaching truly is a noble profession and I am grateful every day for the generosity, talent, patience, commitment and, above all, love that our wonderful teachers bring to their work. I encourage every student at Mt Carmel to take the time to personally thank their teacher on Friday. You can even go to https://worldteachersday.edu.au to make an animated thank you gif of your own to share.
Class Placements 2023
Parents are invited to email me with regard to any considerations you may have for your child’s class placement for 2023. These considerations should be important for the education and wellbeing of your child. Requests for a particular teacher, gender of a teacher, multiple friends etc, are usually not appropriate nor a priority. It is very important for parents to understand that creating classes is detailed and exacting work completed by the teachers to ensure that your child is placed in an appropriate class group each year. When considering class groupings, teachers will look specifically at your child’s educational and social needs and place them with a teacher and peers that will support their development. Requests are to be emailed to me at: michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au by Friday 4 November 2022. Requests received after this date may not be able to be considered. Please be aware that each request will be considered separately and by no means are all requests met. Requests from previous years are not kept on file or considered, as situations change each year. If you would like a previous request to be considered again, you are asked to send in a new request for 2023.
Departing Students
Schools are required to record destination schools for all departing students. If there are any K-5 families moving from Mt Carmel at the end of this year send me an email (michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible indicating your intentions along with your destination. Much of this term is spent preparing for next year and our student numbers need to be accurate. Thank you for assisting us with this information gathering.
Social Media and E-Safety Webinar for Parents
In partnership with the eSafety Commissioner, the Council of Catholic School Parents (CCSP) is offering all parents, carers, teachers and support staff the opportunity to join a free webinar designed for parents and carers of students. Attendees can learn about TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube to help stay safe and have fun online.
The free Webinar is taking place tonight, Wednesday 26 October, from 7.30-8.30pm, and it’s not too late to register if you’re interested. Go to https://register.gotowebinar.com/rt/7769162777892157452.
More information can be found in a flier attached to this newsletter.
Mt Carmel-Led Parish Mass
Next Saturday, 5 November, Mt Carmel will be leading the Vigil Mass at 6pm and we are still looking for student volunteers to help out with a range of jobs such as scripture reading, prayers of the faithful, the offertory procession, collections and choir. Mrs Karakotas is collecting names, so please contact her if your child would like to help and has not yet returned a note. All are welcome, and even if you turn up on the night and haven’t returned a note we can find a role for you.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Welcome to week 3! Year 5/6’s Religious Education unit of work explores: Mary can be a model of discipleship for today's world. In this unit, students use the Three Worlds of the Text to analyse Scripture about Mary. During my visit to 5/6AB and 5/6EG, the students’ task was to collect information to create a combined class display of the Three Worlds of the Text. My group worked collaboratively to compare the passages of Luke 1:26-38, The Birth of Jesus Foretold, and Luke 1:5-25, The Birth of John the Baptist Foretold, using the World of the Text.
This term, our Youth Ministry team will be leading prayer every Thursday for the Year 5/6 students. Emma and Mackie were the first faith leaders to lead this special prayer in the Mercy Chapel. Georgia D., Ava and Emily L., will be leading tomorrow’s prayer.
Mt Carmel’s Mini Vinnies News
Mini Vinnies will be organising a Sockball Challenge in Week 4, Friday 4 November 2022, to raise awareness of how soccer is played in the countries supported by Catholic Mission. Students are invited to make a sockball using recycled materials and to bring it to school on Friday 4 November 2022.

Gospel and Reflection
Matthew 28:18-20
All authority has been to Me in heaven and on earth,
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.
Reflection
The Pope’s prayer intention for the month of October 2022, Mission Month, is: “We pray that every baptised person may be engaged in evangelisation, available to the mission, by being witnesses of a life that has the flavour of the Gospel. Jesus asks us all, and you as well, to be missionary disciples. Are you ready?”
