First Eucharist
This Sunday 23 June, 20 students from Mt Carmel, along with 5 other parish children, will be celebrating their First Eucharist. Mass will commence at 10am in St Augustine’s church and all are warmly invited to join us for this special celebration and the morning tea to follow in the PAC. This Friday, 21 June, the First Communicants will participate in a reflection day as their final preparation to receive the sacrament this weekend.
Open Classrooms and Semester One Reports
The Semester One student reports will be sent home at the end of Week 10 on Friday 5 July. In preparation for this, in order that you can view and share some of the work your child has been completing this semester, we will be holding an Open Classroom afternoon on Wednesday 3 July from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Please discuss your child’s work and report with them and affirm their achievements. It is vital that the sharing of your child’s report be a positive experience; everyone responds to recognition and praise. Your child’s achievements are a great celebration!
Enrolments
Kindergarten Interviews are well underway and enrolment numbers are due to Catholic Education by the end of June in order to plan for staffing in 2020. Please contact Carol or Emma if you have not collected your child’s enrolment form for Kindergarten next year. Your earliest attention to this would be much appreciated.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Michael Green
Principal
GOSPEL: John 16:12-15
I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now. However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he will not be speaking of his own accord, but will say only what he has been told; and he will reveal to you the things to come. He will glorify me, since all he reveals to you will be taken from what is mine. Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you will be taken from what is mine.
REFLECTION
This week's Gospel begins with Jesus telling his disciples that there is much more for him to tell them. However, Jesus realises that they are striving to absorb and understand what he had been saying. He understood that at this point, they did not have the capacity to absorb anything more.
However, Jesus reminds them that when the Spirit comes, the Spirit will guide them to all the truth. He tells them that the Spirit will speak to them about the things that will come in the future. Then Jesus not only foretells his departure, he says that in the future he will return but in a new and different way!
Just as Jesus reassured his disciples, Jesus also reassures us. Today he also is telling us, that he not only will come to us but he already is among us! Jesus comes to us in the breaking of the bread! And when we, his followers, are gathered together, Jesus is with us and among us!
Do we recognise Jesus with us? Do we experience his presence, his love, his grace? Today may our minds and hearts be awake and alert to his coming! We don’t want to miss him! What a loss that would be! (Sr Kristine Anne Harpenau)
VINNIES WINTER APPEAL
Last year, Vinnies Conference members provided over $2 million in emergency assistance including food vouchers and parcels to people in need.
Help us make a difference to people in need in our local community this winter.
Support the Vinnies Winter Appeal and help bring safety and security to people struggling to make ends meet.
This year, Mt Carmel are doing a canned food drive to support families within the Yass community. In each classroom we have placed a basket where students can place their donations. Food cans should be free of rust and damage and should not be out of date.
If each of us were to bring in just one food can this year, we would have over 300 cans to support those in our community who need our support most.
Your generosity is most appreciated!
FIRST EUCHARIST
This Sunday we will be celebrating First Eucharist. As students from our school and parish community prepare for this special day, may we keep them in our prayers and thoughts. There will be a morning tea in the PAC following mass on Sunday to celebrate this special occasion. It would be appreciated if you could drop off a plate of food prior to mass at 10am.
God Bless,
Warren Ziebowski
Religious Education Coordinator
