Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Thank you to Mrs Abbott, Mrs Green and all of Kindergarten for leading us in a beautiful prayer assembly on Monday to mark the second Week of Advent, where we lit the second candle, representing Peace.
God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives
always, and particularly this Advent time.

Reports
The Semester Two reports were published to Compass on Monday. A final reminder to parents that, if your child is finishing at Mt Carmel at the end of this year and moving to a school outside of our Archdiocese, you will need to download all your child’s reports before Friday 15 December as you will no longer have access to their profile on Compass after their final day of enrolment. If your child is moving to another Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, whether Primary or Secondary, you will retain access to previous reports, as Compass is a system-wide Student Administration System and your child’s profile will be transferred to their new school. Access will be temporarily suspended after your child’s last day of enrolment at Mt Carmel (15 December), but will be reactivated on their first day of enrolment at their new school.
Classes and Staffing
Class allocations for 2024 were also announced on Monday, and I’m sure that everyone noticed a change in our naming protocols.
Rather than name classes after their teacher’s initials, there has been a system-wide shift to allocate class names that will not need to change if there is a change in staffing, so like most other schools we have opted to go with colours. The colour names will also help to match buddy classes and also to provide automatic groupings on occasions, such as Mt Carmel Day, when the school breaks into cross-year groups for activities.
The class teachers for 2024 will be:
K Gold – Mrs Andrea Abbott, and K Blue – Mrs Jaclyn Green
1 Red – Mrs Ali Hall, and 1 Green – Mrs Eva Karatotas & Mrs Jessica Goode
2 Gold – Mrs Linda Swadling, and 2 Blue – Mrs Ashlee Hogan
3 Red – Mrs Mandy Leahy, and 3 Green – Mrs Sheree Shoring
4 Gold – Mrs Sue Shepherd & Mrs Tenille Curtois, and 4 Blue – Mr Ted Dunstan & Mrs Tenille Curtois
5 Red – Mrs Kellie Field & Mrs Emma Luckie, and 5 Green – Ms Katrina Grace & Mrs Emma Luckie
6 Gold – Miss Jade Rayner, and 6 Blue – Mrs Esther Glover
Apologies to Year 5 classes; incorrect colours were published in your notification on Monday. The above colours are correct.
Term Dates 2024
At the beginning of next year, Catholic Education is holding a System Day for staff professional development on Tuesday 30 January, which will be followed by our own staff Faith Formation day on Wednesday 31 January. This means that all students, K-6 will commence Term 1 on Thursday 1 February. Term 1 will be an 11-week term, with the Easter break falling at the end of Week 9, and the term concluding on Friday 12 April.
Uniform Shop Additional Opening Times for 2024
The Uniform Shop will be open on Tuesday 30 January and from 10am to 3:00pm on Wednesday 31 January, before school commences on Thursday 1 February. Christmas Mass
The Parish Christmas Eve Mass will be held on Sunday 24 December at 7pm, weather permitting, on the Mt Carmel playground under the shade cloth. If the weather is inclement, Mass will be held in St Augustine’s Church. There will be limited seating provided, so please bring a chair or a blanket if you can. The Parish Music Ministry will be leading carols before Mass from 6:30pm, and Fr Peter has invited children attending to get into the Christmas spirit by coming dressed in theme – shepherds, angels, Magi, etc.
There will be a Vigil Mass in Murrumbateman at 6pm on Saturday evening in the Uniting Church Hall, another Christmas Eve Mass in Gunning at 5pm Sunday, and Mass on Christmas Day at 10:15am in St Augustine’s Church.
Merry Christmas!
And finally, I would like to finish with a few words of thanks. The many successes of the 2023 school year stand proudly as a tribute to the professionalism, dedication and love that our incredible staff bring to their work each day, and to the enthusiasm, resilience and love that the wonderful children of Mt Carmel School bring to our classrooms and playground every day. To our departing students, remember that, wherever you go, you each form a special chapter in the story of our school and you will always be a part of the Mt Carmel Family. Best of luck with the new adventures to come, wherever they may lead.
Thank you to every fabulous family for their support this year; I am very grateful to you all. Thank you to the teaching and support staff for their tireless effort, commitment and vocation.
Thank you to the sensational students; I hope that you are all proud of your efforts and achievements this year. Now it’s time for a rest; take good care over the Christmas break.
May you all, and your families, have a happy and holy Christmas in this year of Our Lord, 2023, and may the peace of the Infant Child be with you every day.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Michael Green

We invite our Mt Carmel community and St Augustine’s parishioners to celebrate this special event with us. Mt Carmel School wishes all students a successful start to Year 7.
Prayer
Strengthen me to live in a state of readiness, ministering to the needs of others and being awake to your presence in my life.
Amen.
