Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Welcome to Term 4
A very warm welcome back to all our students, staff and families. I do hope that the two-week break was restful and enjoyable for everyone. Term 4 is always busy and I’m sure that this year will be no exception. There are a number of significant events coming up including Kindergarten Orientation, the Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival, the end of year Christmas Concert and our Year 6 Graduation, to name just a few.
Working Bee
This Saturday is our school Working Bee, and it’s not too late to put up your hand if you’re able to help out. The flyer at the end of this newsletter has a QR code you can use to register, or click this link: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=5YvSoZ2E9kirEWzsObUVqsO204dlb8xFjCv2GiflIwNUQ1g1TkxXNFBLNkcwNVlWTUlQUTJGVVpHRy4u
For those who have already responded – thank you!
Class Placements 2025
Parents are invited to email me with regard to any considerations you may have for your child’s class placement for 2025. These considerations should be important for the education and wellbeing of your child. Requests for a particular teacher, gender of a teacher, multiple friends etc, are usually not appropriate nor a priority. It is very important for parents to understand that creating classes is detailed and exacting work completed by the teachers to ensure that your child is placed in an appropriate class group each year. When considering class groupings, teachers will look specifically at your child’s educational and social needs and place them with peers that will support their development. Requests are to be emailed to me at: michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au by Friday 8 November 2024.
Please be aware that, although all requests received are given due consideration, there is no commitment that your request will be accommodated.
Requests from previous years are not kept on file nor considered, as situations change each year. If you would like a previous request to be considered again, you are asked to send in a new request for 2025.
Departing Students
Schools are required to record destination schools for all departing students. If there are any K-5 families moving from Mt Carmel at the end of this year, please send me an email (michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible indicating your intentions along with your destination. Much of this term is spent preparing for next year and our student numbers need to be accurate. Thank you for assisting us with this information gathering.
Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival
The Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival will be held this Friday 25 October. All students from Years 2 to 6 have been allocated a team in their sport of preference, and there has been lots of practice of the skills of each game in PE lessons over the last term. The event operates as a round-robin competition, and every team gets to play several games throughout the day. An important reminder is that families need to make their own travel arrangements, and because the event is so popular it’s always a good idea to leave plenty of travel time. When you arrive at the Boorowa Showgrounds, there will be a Mt Carmel ‘base’ set up in both the netball and touch football areas - look for the school flags and marquees. Our school staff will be assisting and supervising teams to ensure everyone keeps on track throughout the day, but we still need additional parents to help with a range of jobs; please see Mr Dunstan's Sports Report for details about how to volunteer. Students should wear their regular school sports uniform, including their school hat. Please ensure that all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name. There will be a canteen operating, but it’s a good idea to bring plenty of water and some other food/snacks as well.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation commenced today and will run for three consecutive weeks. We are very excited to be able to welcome our new students to Mt Carmel; Kindergarten Orientation is a very important step on the journey to starting ‘Big School’.
World Teachers’ Day
Australia celebrates World Teachers’ Day this Friday 25 October, but because of the Boorowa carnival, we will be celebrating the day next Friday 1 November, which, fittingly, is All Saints Day! I am conscious of the cliché, but teaching truly is a noble profession and I am grateful every day for the generosity, talent, patience, commitment and, above all, love that our wonderful teachers bring to their work. I encourage every student at Mt Carmel to take the time to personally thank their teacher next Friday.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Michael Green
Principal
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Term 4! I hope you have had a restful break with family and friends. Last term, Year 5 students examined different ways to live a charitable life. I asked a few students what it means to live a charitable life and below are their responses.
Lachie: Charity means showing love.It is like the ripple effect because if you do something good, it makes you feel good.
Molly: Making sure less fortunate people have a meal and a warm safe place to stay at night. It is not only for others but also for yourself, making sure you are kind to yourself.
Fletcher: Being loving to someone else and being a good person. Making someone feel better after having a chat with them. It makes you have that good feeling that you have done something good.
Religious Life of Mt Carmel School
Youth Ministry
Last term, Mt Carmel School’s Ministry Team organised special faith retreats for their Kindergarten and Year 1 buddies. This involved small groups engaging in games and activities, a drama based on scripture and a prayer experience led by the Year 6 students.
Catholic Mission Month
October is Mission Month and mission means connecting with other people, helping those in need, sharing the Gospel message through our actions. In this month, we go out of our way to help others, to be kind and thoughtful. This year's theme, chosen by Pope Francis, is rooted in the Gospel of Matthew: “Go and Invite Everyone to the Banquet,” reflecting the inclusive and urgent call to bring God's love to everyone. Join us in this universal mission to spread the Gospel and invite all to experience the joy of Christ's message!
Schools are invited to engage with mission in an holistic way within the head, heart, hands model: encouraging a learning mind, an open heart and hands for action.
Crazy Socks Fundraiser 2024
Mt Carmel School’s Mini Vinnies are organising a fundraiser to support Catholic Mission this Thursday 24 October. Students are invited to wear crazy socks and bring in a gold coin donation.
All Saint's Prayer Service
Families and friends are invited to 1 Green’s All Saints’ Prayer Service, Friday 1 November 2025, 9 am, PAC.
Prayer
Dear Creator God, create in us a new sense of solidarity with the poor. Give us the courage to reach out to the excluded, the energy to walk with the lost and the words to encourage the lonely. May we pour out our lives in service. Unite us in faith, hope and love as we pray together.
Send your Holy Spirit to inspire and sustain us in our mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival 2024
Our school will be participating in the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival next term. The format of the day will be a gala day with schools playing in a round-robin competition.
Date: Friday 25 October 2024 (Friday Week 2, Term 4)
Venue: Boorowa Showgrounds, Ballyryan Road, Boorowa.
Transportation: By private car.
Cost: $5.00 per student to cover team registration.
There will be a canteen operating at the fields and qualified First Aid trained people will be present during the day. All players will compete in their Mt Carmel sport uniform.
The Touch teams will consist of 10 players per team (7 on the field) and the Netball teams will consist of 10 players per team (7 on the field and maximum 3 boys per team). Students will compete in their year groups from Year 2 to Year 6.
It is an expectation that all Year 2-6 students attend the event. Teachers have organised students into mixed year-level teams according to their preferred sport. Although it is an expectation that students attend, if you know your child will be absent on the day, please let their class teacher know so that they can plan accordingly. We still require referees and coaches for some teams, if you are able to assist, please fill out the Google form below.

I received the following message from the organisers today, so please leave plenty of time to get there:
Hi all,
For those schools attending our Touch and Netball Carnival on Friday, we have been notified of a potential traffic issue for those travelling to Boorowa on Friday morning.
We have had a report that several large, oversize trucks are planning to use Lachlan Valley Way (between the Hume Hwy and Boorowa) on Friday morning. These trucks are large and quite slow. It might be beneficial to plan to leave 15 minutes earlier than planned to avoid stress for timely arrival in Boorowa.
Please let your parents and families know of this potential issue.
