Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Working Bee
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the families who were able to lend a hand at the Working Bee at the end of Week 2. On the day, we had 30 parents, students, ex-students, teachers and other community members helping out, and our school is looking fabulous as a result. We were able to get a handful of minor building works, some painting, and lots of gardening maintenance completed, and the BBQ lunch was a lovely social gathering, too.
Class Placements 2025
Parents are invited to email me with regard to any considerations you may have for your child’s class placement for 2025. These considerations should be important for the education and wellbeing of your child. Requests for a particular teacher, gender of a teacher, multiple friends etc, are usually not appropriate nor a priority. It is very important for parents to understand that creating classes is detailed and exacting work completed by the teachers to ensure that your child is placed in an appropriate class group each year. When considering class groupings, teachers will look specifically at your child’s educational and social needs and place them with peers that will support their development. Requests are to be emailed to me at: michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au by this Friday 8 November 2024.
Please be aware that, although all requests received are given due consideration, there is no commitment that your request will be accommodated.
Requests from previous years are not kept on file nor considered, as situations change each year. If you would like a previous request to be considered again, you are asked to send in a new request for 2025.
Departing Students
Schools are required to record destination schools for all departing students. If there are any K-5 families moving from Mt Carmel at the end of this year, please send me an email (michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible indicating your intentions along with your destination. Much of this term is spent preparing for next year and our student numbers need to be accurate. Thank you for assisting us with this information gathering.
Remembrance Day
Next Monday is Remembrance Day, and 2 Blue will be leading a prayer service, commencing at 10:40am, to mark this important community event. Parents and families are welcome to attend. The School Captains and I will be attending the Yass RSL Remembrance Day ceremony, to show our respect and lay a wreath at the cenotaph.
Student Leadership
Next Wednesday, nominations open for Year 5 students who are seeking formal leadership positions in 2025; that is, School Captains, Vice-Captains, House Captains and SRC Representatives. At Mt Carmel, our student leaders are appointed, not elected, and the process begins with students completing a nomination form addressing a selection criteria. These forms must be submitted by Friday 22 November, Week 6. Nominees then present a speech to the school in Week 7 and meet with an interview panel in Week 8. The panel will then decide on appointments, taking into consideration each nominee’s interview, application and feedback from students and teachers (via voting slips, following the speeches). I wish all who are considering nominating for these positions the very best.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Michael Green
Principal
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 4! Year 2 students are examining how people engage in action and rituals that assist in restoring right relationships and maintaining peace. Students are exploring the definition of forgiveness and how they can apply it within their lives. I asked a few students what forgiveness means to them and below are their responses.
Harry: Forgiveness is about forgiving others and I forgive by saying super quickly “I forgive you”.
Chevy: The Prodigal Son teaches us to forgive when you have done something wrong. I forgive people by giving them some space and then I say sorry.
Charlie: I forgive people when they are happy.
Adelaide: If someone makes someone upset, you say sorry. I have learnt to say sorry and then I feel happy.
Anna: Forgiveness is about caring and respecting other people even though you do not know them.
Religious Life of Mt Carmel School
Thank you to Mrs Karakotas, Mrs Goode and 1 Green for preparing and leading a beautiful prayer service to celebrate All Saints Day. K, 2, 4 and 6 Gold classes attended Parish Mass at St. Augustine’s Church to celebrate the feast day with Fr Peter and parishioners.
Youth Ministry
This term, Mt Carmel School’s Ministry Team have organised mini faith retreats for the Year 5 students in preparation for their Journeying with Jesus retreat in Term 1, 2025. This involves our Year 6 Youth Ministry Team leading small groups in faith formation experiences focusing on prayer and exploring why we need a backpack with a first aid kit, a torch, and a water bottle to help us on our journey with Jesus.
Catholic Mission Month - Crazy Socks Fundraiser
Mt Carmel School’s Mini Vinnies organised a successful fundraiser to support Catholic Mission on Thursday 24 October and raised $ 341.20. Thank you for supporting Mission Month.
Remembrance Day Prayer Service
Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute's silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Our Mt Carmel community has many defence force veterans who have dedicated their lives to serve the nation. We thank them for their service.
2 Blue will be leading a prayer service on Monday 11 November to celebrate Remembrance Day. The prayer service will start at 10.40 am in the PAC and parents and friends are invited to join us.
Dear God,
As God’s people we pray for the needs of the Church and the world. We pray for change: in ourselves and in the circumstances of those in need, particularly in Ethiopia. May we pour out our lives in service. Unite us in faith, hope and love as we pray together.
Send your Holy Spirit to inspire and sustain us in our mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival 2024
A huge thank you to all those parents, siblings, grandparents and guardians who volunteered their time to help out at the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival in Week 2. I got nothing but positive reports back from people who managed the teams on the day. The students were great ambassadors for the school and should be congratulated for the way they conducted themselves. I received the following feedback from the organisers last week:
Dear Touch and Netball Carnival schools and Sport Coordinators,
On behalf of St Joseph’s, Boorowa, Boorowa Central School and the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival Organising Committee, can I pass on to all schools our thanks for making the 2024 carnival such an amazing success!! 390 teams across both touch and netball (we estimate that would be approximately 3750 students) and possibly 2500 spectators and volunteers from schools, it was a massive day with so much fun and enjoyment had by players and spectators alike.
Thank you to all schools for their ongoing support for the carnival and to Sport Coordinators for your work organising your schools and their teams. We look forward to many more years of fun in Boorowa!!
A claim the date for 2025: our date for next year’s carnival is Friday 24th October (the usual Friday of Week 2, Term 4). So pop that in your calendars and we will look forward to next year.
