Tomorrow is the night that I will be joining a number of Catholic School Principals and business leaders to sleep rough at the National Arboretum in Canberra and raise much needed money for those in our community who can't afford the basics — food, education, utilities and even a place to call home. My personal goal is to raise $2000 for Vinnies; if you are able to donate to this important cause, go to https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/michaelgreen/canberra
And as a House Spirit Challenge and for a bit of moral support for me, we will be holding a Pyjama Day. Students can, for a gold coin donation, come to school in their cosiest PJs, slippers and dressing gown.
Open Classrooms and Semester One Reports
A reminder that we will be holding an Open Classroom afternoon next Wednesday 23 June from 3:30 to 5:30pm. You are warmly invited to come with your child to visit their classroom and share in the wonderful work that they have been doing this term. Semester One Reports will be sent home on Friday 25 June. We will not be holding formal Parent-Teacher Interviews at this time as these were held at the end of Term 1, but parents are always welcome to make an individual appointment with their child’s teacher any time they would like to discus their child’s progress.
Religious Education in the Classroom
KJG visited Lovatt Chapel to provoke their interest about different prayer spaces and become familiar with praying in a chapel. The following day, students attended Parish Mass with their Year 5/6GZ buddies. Provocations encourage students to think independently by encouraging their interests and the exploration of those interests.
Gospel – Mark 4:26-34

In this passage, Jesus uses the parable of the Mustard Seed to communicate his teachings about the Kingdom of God. Jesus points out that a huge, significant plant can come from a small, insignificant beginning like a little seed. This is parallel to the Kingdom of God (Mission Bible Class, 2021).
Reflection
What is amazing about a very small mustard seed?
How can I help others within my community and parish grow?
How can I guide and nurture myself and others?
Enjoy your week!
May peace be with you,
Eva Karakotas

On Friday 25 June, the canteen will be offering Hot Dogs as a lunch option. If your child would like to purchase a Hot Dog, orders must be pre-ordered, as we will need to pre-order the buns and hot dogs prior to the day from the supermarket.
Pre-orders will be available from today, 16 June, and will close on Monday 21 June at 2.00pm. Please also order any snacks, drinks or ice blocks for the Friday as once you place your hot dog order, your order can not be modified via Qkr.
Sausage Rolls, Pies, corn cobs and a limited selection of sandwich options will also be available on the day, although these do not need to be pre ordered.
Dietary requirments will be catered for.
Celebration Mass For The Sisters of Mercy & Farewell for Sr Aileen Wailes
Sunday 18 July, 10:15am, St Augustine’s Church, Meehan Street, Yass.
The Sisters of Mercy are leaving Yass, after 146 years of good works in our community. This includes their pivotal role in the education of so many, especially the poor and marginalised, at Mt Carmel.
We are going to honour them suitably, beginning with a Mass of Thanksgiving. Following Mass, we have planned a story telling/memory sharing time in the Mt Carmel PAC, a catered light lunch with the Sisters at approx. 1.15pm, and a suggested donation for this is $25pp. A photographic history of the Sisters’ life and work in Yass will be on display*.
We invite you to join us, for whatever part of the day you may wish to attend.
RSVPs for lunch are essential for catering and COVID-Plan purposes. Please RSVP by Wednesday 30 June.
For any queries, please contact Annabelle O'Connell on 0412 919 856.
ALL WELCOME
*we welcome any contributions, photos, stories and/or other significant items that we can add to our collection. If you or someone you know wishes to do so, please message me to arrange collection/drop off.
