Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
Kindergarten Orientation
We are very excited to announce that Kindergarten Orientation for 2022 will be proceeding on Wednesdays in Weeks 5, 6 and 7 this term.
COVID-Safe practices must be followed, including Service NSW sign-in and minimising parent time on site at drop-off and pick-up times. Full details of arrangements for Orientation have been emailed directly to families; please contact the school office if you need any clarification.
Class Placements 2022
Parents are invited to email me with regard to any considerations you may have for your child’s class placement for 2022. These considerations should be important for the education and wellbeing of your child. Requests for a particular teacher, gender of a teacher, multiple friends etc, are usually not appropriate nor a priority. It is very important for parents to understand that creating classes is detailed and exacting work completed by the teachers to ensure that your child is placed in an appropriate class group each year. When considering class groupings, teachers will look specifically at your child’s educational and social needs and place them with a teacher and peers that will support their development. Requests are to be emailed to me at: michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au by this Friday 22 October 2021. Requests received after this date may not be able to be considered. Please be aware that each request will be considered separately and by no means are all requests met. Requests from previous years are not kept on file or considered, as situations change each year. If you would like a previous request to be considered again, you are asked to send in a new request for 2022.
Departing Students
Schools are required to record destination schools for all departing students. I ask that all families of Year 6 students inform us as soon as possible of the high school your child will be attending. In the Forms & Documents tab on the school website and SZapp is a Year 6 2022 Destination eForm. I also request that any K-5 families moving from Mt Carmel at the end of this year send me an email (michael.green@cg.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible indicating your intentions along with your destination. Much of this term is spent preparing for next year and our student numbers need to be accurate. Thank you for assisting us with this information gathering.
Book Week
Plans for our revised Book Week are in full swing and we are greatly looking forward to our virtual parade next Friday. Parents and families can watch live from 9:30am (the link will be provided via Compass on Friday morning), although we are unable to provide exact times for each class. If you miss the live parade, a recording will be posted in the afternoon. As part of the celebration, each student will be provided with a sausage sandwich for lunch (dietary needs will be catered for) but will need to bring a drink and snacks to supplement this, if needed. The canteen will be open for pre-ordered recess and lunch items as usual.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Religious Education in the Classroom
Welcome to Week 3! Mt Carmel’s Crazy Sock Day Fundraiser was a huge success and we raised $423.50! Thank you to everyone who supported this great event, Sock it to poverty! The funds have been transferred to Catholic Mission.
Kindergarten used the passage of the Good Samaritan to help them understand how this passage is relevant in their lives. They made binoculars to remind them to be on the lookout for people they can help.
KNB: We are like the Good Samaritan. We’re on the lookout for people we can help!
School House Spirit Challenge Week 4
Next Thursday, 28 October, Mt Carmel School will experience how some of their brothers and sisters around the world play the game of soccer using sockballs. Students are invited to make a sockball using recycled materials and to bring it to school on Thursday 28 October 2021.

Reflection
World in front of the Text (What does this text mean today?)
What does this passage teach us about God and about mankind?
What is a command to obey in this passage?
What has God revealed in your life that needs changing?
What truth can be applied to your life about the gospel?
Enjoy your week!

Mt Carmel School will be celebrating CBCA Book Week in Week 4 this term.
The Children’s Book Council of Australia has shortlisted the 2021 books from a large selection of books. Each class from K-6 has been assigned a book to study. Students will then create a display based on the book for exhibition in the Lacey Library during Book Week.
A Zoom Parade where parents can watch from home or work will now take place in the library. A link to the zoom parade will be provided on Friday morning to all parents via Compass. Children have been asked to bring the book with them when they parade.
Dress Up: The children are encouraged to dress up as a book character for the day. They can use the clothes they have at home and change them slightly. They do not have to buy a costume but if you wish to that’s your choice.
The school will be providing a sausage sizzle sandwich for all the students for lunch, after the book parade. Dietary requirements will be catered for.

Teacher/Librarian
Unfortunately, with Level 3 restrictions still in place, the school canteen is permitted to open; however, it is still operating with pre-orders only at both recess and lunch — no counter sales.
Lunch tubs will be collected from the canteen at both recess and lunch by each class. All items ordered will be delivered to the classrooms in these tubs.
Ice creams will again not be available to puchase at lunch time. Ice creams will be available at recess time only.
Please be advised that we are currently unable to source Vegan Sausage Rolls from the supermarket, so until we can purchase these again, Vegan Sausage Rolls will not be available from the Canteen. Vegan fried rice, corn cobs and a selection of sandwiches are available to purchase.
The canteen is now offering Dairy Free/Vegan friendly cheese on sandwiches.
Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Vegan friendly butter is used, along with Dairy Free mayonnaise on all sandwiches, wraps and rolls. Vegan friendly mayonnaise can be used on request.
Please order all recess and lunch orders via Qkr before 9am on Thursday and Friday mornings.
If you have any questions regarding the canteen menu, please email emma.mcevoy@cg.catholic.edu.au or call the office on 6226 3357.
