Student Leadership
This Friday, nominations open for Year 5 students who are seeking formal leadership positions in 2021; that is, School Captains, Vice-Captains, House Captains and SRC Representatives. At Mt Carmel, our student leaders are appointed, not elected, and the process begins with students completing a nomination form addressing a selection criteria. Nomination forms will be available from the school office on Friday morning. These forms must be submitted by Friday 20 November, Week 6. Nominees then present a speech to the school in Week 7 and meet with an interview panel in Week 8. The panel will then decide on appointments, taking into consideration each nominee’s interview, application and feedback from students and teachers (via voting slips, following the speeches). I wish all who are considering nominating for these positions the very best. Many families will be aware that I have a child in Year 5 this year. For the record, to avoid any conflict of interest I will be taking no part in any aspect of the selection process.
COVID Catchups
because of COVID-19 restrictions, several regular events on the school calendar have been missed this year and we are doing our best to make up for these. Because we have not been able to hold an evening disco, next Friday 20 November we will be holding a Daytime Disco: K-2 at Recess and 3-6 at Lunch. A flier with details is attached to this newsletter.
A big disappointment for Year 5 and 6 this year was missing out on school camp. In lieu of this, we will be holding an outdoor-education excursion to Warrambui on Friday of Week 7.
As of last Friday COVID restrictions have eased further, but still not to the extent that we are able to invite parents to attend assemblies, concerts and the like. We are still investigating what options are open to us for Christmas celebrations and End-of-Year Awards presentations. Rest assured, I will update you as soon as we have firm plans in place.
JP Services
For the information of families, I have recently been appointed a Justice of the Peace. If any JP services are required, please contact the school office for an appointment.
May God’s peace be in your families,
Remembrance Day Prayer Service
Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute's silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Our Mt Carmel community has many defence force veterans who have dedicated their lives to protect Australia. Thank you to Miss Cassidy and 5/6 TC for leading the Mt Carmel community in a beautiful Remembrance Day Prayer Service. We also thank Army veteran, Sarah Watson, who kindly accepted to be interviewed for our prayer service. Sarah attended Mt Carmel from Kindergarten to Year 10. Click here to view the prayer service.
This term Year 1 students have been unpacking Scripture from the Old Testament. We are currently focussing on Genesis 2:4-25. After watching and reading the Scripture passage, and examining images, we used the visible thinking routine Colour, Symbol, Image to further build on our knowledge and make personal connections.
Matthew 25:1-13
Then the kingdom of Heaven will be like this: Ten wedding attendants took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were sensible:the foolish ones, though they took their lamps, took no oil with them, whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as well as their lamps. The bridegroom was late, and they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. But at midnight there was a cry, "Look! The bridegroom! Go out and meet him." Then all those wedding attendants woke up and trimmed their lamps, and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, "Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out ". But they replied, "There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sell it and buy some for yourselves". They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding hall and the door was closed. The other attendants arrived later. "Lord, Lord," they said, "open the door for us". But he replied, "In truth I tell you, I do not know you". So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.

: What colour best represents this? Why?
: What symbols best represent this? Why?
