Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
I wish all our students, parents and teachers a very warm welcome to Term 2 and I hope that the holiday break was a refreshing and relaxing time for all.
ANZAC Day
We have been advised by the Yass Branch of the RSL that there will not be an ANZAC Day march this year, although services will be held as usual at dawn and 11am at the Cenotaph. Members of the public are welcome to attend these services, and student representatives will be laying a wreath on behalf of Mt Carmel School at the 11am service.
School Uniform
Our students look fabulous in their winter uniform. Thank you to all our parents for being so supportive of our uniform policy. A reminder that the school hat is not compulsory during Terms 2 and 3. The uniform shop has been running hot as the weather gets colder; a reminder that the uniform shop is open for sizing and sales on Tuesday afternoons and orders placed via the Qkr App are dispatched on Wednesdays. If you have purchased new uniform, please ensure that every item is clearly labeled with your child’s name.
2022 Enrolments
Our enrolment drive for 2022 has already begun. The official enrolment period for Catholic Schools in this Archdiocese commences in May. If you have a pre-school child ready for Kindergarten, it’s time to enrol now. The Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn online enrolment form can be accessed by clicking the link below. If you need to access a hard-copy form, please contact the Front Office. An interview will be organised once the enrolment application is received. If your friends have a child starting in Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to consider Mt Carmel as an option for their children’s education. We will be conducting Open Day tours and holding a Parent Information session in May.

GOSPEL: Luke 24:35-48
Then they told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised him at the breaking of bread. They were still talking about all this when he himself stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with you!' In a state of alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghost. But he said, 'Why are you so agitated, and why are these doubts stirring in your hearts? See by my hands and my feet that it is I myself. Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have.' And as he said this he showed them his hands and his feet. Their joy was so great that they still could not believe it, as they were dumbfounded; so he said to them, 'Have you anything here to eat?' And they offered him a piece of grilled fish, which he took and ate before their eyes. Then he told them, 'This is what I meant when I said, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the Psalms, was destined to be fulfilled.' He then opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, 'So it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.
REFLECTION
At some point in our lives (figuratively speaking), all of us have been in a small boat on a large body of water. We may have been so severely tossed about by events in our lives that perhaps we did not believe that our boat would make it safely to the other shore. Take a moment and remember one of those times. During this stressful time, did Jesus “appear” to you? He may not have been walking on the water. He suddenly may have just appeared in your “boat.” Or perhaps you “heard” his quiet voice. Or Jesus may come through a good friend who happened to stop to visit with you.
When life is tumultuous, painful and stressful, we yearn to hear Jesus say to us: “Do not be afraid.” These are the times when we need Jesus the most. However, it is rare for us to literally “hear” Jesus say those words to us. Jesus will come to us and he will speak to us. However, we need to be attentive and alert. Most likely Jesus will come at a time and in a way we do not expect. If we are not alert, attentive and expecting Jesus, we may not notice when he comes to us. What a horrible loss this would be!
Today, be alert! Most likely, Jesus will come to you when you least expect him. (Jesus does like to surprise us!) Be attentive throughout the day! Jesus is “walking on the water” of your life. The question is: will you notice Jesus? And will you invite Jesus into the “boat” of your life? (Sr Kristine Anne Harpenau)

ANZAC DAY
On Friday we will be commemorating ANZAC Day with a prayer service led by 2AH.
On ANZAC Day, we remember all who lost their lives through Australia's involvement in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
We especially remember the courageous actions undertaken by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during the First World War.
On this national day of commemoration, we pray for the airmen, sailors and soldiers who died in battle, sacrificing their lives while on duty. We commemorate their bravery and pray for the families who lost loved ones.
God Bless,

Religious Education Coordinator

The K-2 Cross Country Carnival will be held this Friday 23 April 2021 on the school bottom oval from 12.30pm-1.30pm.
Students are to wear their sports uniform, hats, sunscreen and bring their water bottle.
All parents are invited to come along and watch their child participate in this enjoyable school event, ensuring that 1.5m social distancing is adhered to.
Stage 3 students will also be attending to cheer and support their buddies.
The focus in SIZZLE for weeks 1 and 2 will be ‘Stay Calm with Others’.
Students will learn how to control their temper in conflict situations with others by identifying
angry feelings and using strategies to calm themselves and talk things out to avoid arguing and fighting. Staying calm with others means we don’t get mad or lose our temper with others. Instead, we think about our feelings, stay relaxed, and talk things out so everybody can work or play well together.
Students will be able to
- talk about the importance of staying calm with others,
- name feelings associated with staying calm with others,
- identify positive examples of this skill, and
- show how to stay calm with others.
Attached is the skill step card outlining the 4 steps of:
Step 1: FEEL if you are mad or upset.
Step 2: THINK about what is making you mad or upset.
Step 3: TALK things over with the other person.
Step 4: DO something to help you stay calm.
I encourage you to print and display the skills steps at home as a visual reminder for students.
